>Obtuse doesn't suit you.

If you claim "they said it's perfectly safe and they're lying" you'll have to do better than veiled insults. I don't know of anyone who claimed the border is even relatively safe. Napolitano said "it's as safe as it's ever been" (which isn't saying much) and that it needs work. So what are you talking about?

>There are warnings all along the border to not cross it.

Yep, crossing the border (on either side) isn't very healthy nowadays. Hundreds of illegal immigrants die trying every year, and I can think of at least one boater who was killed by pirates when they crossed the border into Mexico.

On the other hand, I worked 1/3 of a mile from the border for five years, and jumped at a DZ that's about four miles from the border for the past eight. The local kids have been a far bigger danger than any risk from across the border. Heck, the few times we landed in Mexico the people over there helped us get back over. (The Federales weren't so keen on that though.)

>Who spotted that load?

Well, let's see - Rob A was one of the spotters, Buzz was one, I think Dave N was one.

In their defense, at least one was due to a problem a jumper had (a stuck brake line.) When you're 1/3 of a mile from the border it doesn't take much to put you in Mexico.

I've heard that question a lot in the past when 'off DZ' landings happened. :D

I can see where accuracy would be a big priority!

Only about landing in the state prison that was right behind the cops range.
:o

Oh. I want to put in a good word for Abilene.
Abilene is in the middle of the Texas bible belt. The women there are starved for affection.

It's the only city I've been in that the women actually had a big, about 9 women, cat fight free-for-all at the bar over who was going to dance with, and go home with, me and my brother.

Heck. They didn't have to fight. We'd have taken them ALL on but they were the selfish type.
:D:D

It was embarrassing having to write out an appointment schedule on napkins for each of the nights we were in town.

I hated leaving Abilene.

True story.

"Abilene Abilene prettiest town I've ever seen
Women there don't treat you mean in Abilene my Abilene"

recorded by Buck Owens
written by Lester Brown, John D. Loudermilk, Bob Gibson

Talk about determination to do something! I just don't know about you guys. :D

Abilene holds some good-good memories for me, too. At the time, I was living in Odessa, Texas. I worked a deal with a Senior Rigger to get my Senior ticket... he lived in Abilene. It was several week-end trips but we got it done. As a side note... his packing table was in his back yard and it was in the summer.

p.s. I slept on the floor of his sewing room!B|

Yep, crossing the border outside an approved location: bad. Signs saying so: good.

Signs miles away from the border telling folks to stay away from that particular American soil due to danger of illegal activity: VERY BAD.

OK...how about this:

Since the goobermint insists on keeping U.S. soldiers in the great desert countries, how about building them a decent training ground....the entire length of the border in the southwest.

It would be a live-fire training ground where they could get real-world experience in hunting down bad guys.

Two birds, one stone
