Soulja Boy says he let his "words get the best of [him]" when he released a new rap video saying, "F**k the troops," and now he's issued a full apology to the entire U.S. military.

The rapper ignited a wave of controversy this week over his new song, "Let's Be Real" -- which includes the lyrics:

"F**k the FBI and the army troops ... fighting for what? Be your own man ... I'll be flying through the clouds with green like I'm Peter Pan."

TMZ spoke with Fred A. Flores -- a retired Marine who is now a commissioner for the L.A. County Veteran’s Advisory Commission. Flores tells us, "It's a very offensive statement , especially with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 coming up."

In a response on GlobalGrind.com, Soulja Boy responded to the controversy in a post titled "I Am Deeply Sorry To All Members Of The United States Military Services And Their Families."

In the post, Soulja writes, "As an artist, I let my words get the best of me. Sometimes there are things that we feel, things that we want to express, and when we put them on paper and speak them out loud, they can come out wrong."

"When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them."

He adds, "So, I write this to give my sincerest apology to all members of the United States military services, as well as their families that were offended by my most recent lyrics."

Read his full apology below:

"As an artist, I let my words get the best of me. Sometimes there are things that we feel, things that we want to express, and when we put them on paper and speak them out loud, they can come out wrong.

When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them. So, I write this to give my sincerest apology to all members of the United States military services, as well as their families that were offended by my most recent lyrics.

As a young man who grew up in the post-9/11 era, I have watched our country fight two wars that seem like they are never going to end.

I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what? A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and I think a lot about what if we had never gone to war.

Where would our economy be? Our schools, our after-school and work programs, our streets? I mean, damn, 48 people got shot in New York City just this past weekend ... in 3 days ... I'm not saying that it is just because of a bad economy, but at a certain point we have to take care of our own people.

In no way would I ever want to offend those who are protecting our freedoms ... a lot of homeboys who I grew up with, a lot of people who come from the neighborhoods we live in ... In no way do I want to hurt any of our honorable soldiers who put their lives at risk, regardless of how they feel about the two wars we fight in.

I am just frustrated that we haven't been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me. I am deeply sorry.

~Soulja Boy"

The only thing this little bitch feels sorry about is so many people got pissed off at him. Personally most all rap these days is total shit and no more. How in the hell do these fucking douchebags get record contracts for rhyming words? It's not like they can play a piano or a guitar. (and yes I know there are some that can...but most do not) So I pose this,..FUCK Solja Boy!

That sounds like my parents, circa, oh, 1969, bitching about the goddam hippies and their goddam rock-n-roll, which isn't music, it's just a bunch of goddam NOISE!

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, Judy Garland, Doris Day. They were the mega popular music superstars of their day. All performed almost solely as vocalists. And they composed almost none of the music or lyrics they performed.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,

Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

And I hope that you die

For all of it's flaws, stories like this are proof that America still has things worth fighting for. It is still a country where people can say things about issues they disagree with and still a place where people who disagree with what was said can tell the original person that they are full of shit. Count yourself lucky that you don't live in a country where regulator has been setup to censor songs like Dire Strait's "Money For Nothing" (without even researching into what the song was really about) only because the word "Faggot" appears in the song. Count yourself lucky that you don't live in a country that believes in sending warnings of criminal prosecution to public speakers for what they may say not for what they actually did say. Count yourself lucky that you do not live in a country with a state funded public broadcaster that censors you if you do not toe the "politically correct" line.

Soulja Boy may be a major ass wipe for what he believes in, but at least he is allowed to believe in something versus having the government tell him what he is and is not allowed to believe in.

being in tune with the majority has nothing to do with being right.

What would you suggest be done when someone says something demeaning to the military?

We're on the same page...did you happen to read the subtle quotes inside the video I presented?

personally, I predicted that you'd just post this video and get it over with quick:

The bottom line is that things aren't always as they seem...this is one of the obvious ones...you guys have missed so much.

Most of my posts are FULL of riddles, subtleties and jokes...but this forum has become so fu*kin' lazy it's pathetic...

People worry to much about what other people say, if he has no respect for the troops that is his decision. One doesn't need to agree with it, but people are too easily offended. I don't believe in the whole respecting a person or organization because you're supposed to and that it's the socially acceptable thing to do. Some people do not agree with the thought pattern held by the majority of people.

With that said, Soulja Boy is a shit rapper. And I hold more anger towards him for adding to the destruction of the genre than I do about him expressing his opinions on the troops.

The worst part of this I feel is that he went back and apologised. Clearly he wanted to say something, and if you're going to step out and be controversial, don't take back your opinion because people moan.

And this goes further than just this incident. People should be free to say fuck whoever. Fuck Jesus, Fuck Atheists, Fuck Guns, Fuck Gun-o-phobes. I mean really... Who fucking cares, it's someone expressing their opinion. Just because you believe someone may deserve instant respect doesn't mean everyone does.

Yikes, some nice spin in that paragraph.

The Dire Straits' song is allowed back on the radio and not censored.

The warning to Ann Coulter was sent by a university official.

As for Soulja Boy, shocking people sells records.

Nobody is saying that he can't say it, and the 1st Amendment only applies to gov't, not individuals. People have just as much of a right to say he was a dick for doing the lyrics as you do to accuse people of being dicks for being down on him for "dissing" the troops.

Given the attitude, sounds like it's a win-win.

The sad thing is that some 'journalist' found it worthy of writing an article about and some news source was actually willing to publish it. What's next? "Rapper claims bran muffins aren't as good as chocolate muffins". An opinion given by a terrible 'artist' is hardly news worthy. :|

You have to wonder if he did it simply to generate the controversy (and the subsequent publicity).

I don't think he has the talent to generate this much buzz without doing something stupid and offensive.

The mere fact that this song was censored in the first place was FUBARed.

Followed with threats of violence by the student body if she showed up.

I agree, but Canada certainly isn't alone in radio censorship...just ask Howard Stern.

The university threatened her with violence?
