Ultimately I think it's the wrong move, but when you consider the tough economy, I also think backing off a little isn't such a bad idea IF the savings go to putting people to work. My fear would be though that the companies aren't going to hire anyone, just continue business as usual. It's like when the government gave a tax break to the airlines to get people flying and the savings wasn't passed on to the passengers. Ever see the movie "Mars Attacks"? To me it's a bit like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPMmC0UAnj0 I agree with you about the balancing act As far as Mars Attacks? Never seen it and I have no desire to go to the link provided I do however think companies with hire IF they know what they are getting into I watched a good show on IPTV that was comparing todays financial environment to that what was just before the great depression One of the more interesting things they talked about was the fact that companies have much more cash that they did back then Because of this are much better positioned to survive in the current situation They also said that they (the analysts) did not see companies hiring because of the unknowns and these companies would therefore would keep the cash in the bank until they understood what was coming Obama care was/is a big unknown along with EPA regs and other factors I think the companies holding cash are not evil. They are just being prudent. But in the end, regardless of what happens in two years, it is the right thing to do today"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." GeorgiaDon 380 #9 September 2, 2011 QuotePunishing business and industry that have nothing to do with creating the problem will not solve it. If those businesses and industries have nothing to do with creating the problem, then the tougher standards should not have any effect on them. Only those industries that are emitting smog and ozone in amounts above the proposed standard, which is based on extensive study of the relationship between ozone and respiratory disease, would be affected. Exactly how are industries and businesses that don't release excessive amounts of ozone being punished? Numerous studies have found that reducing ozone emissions to the proposed standard would reduce premature deaths due to lung disease by around 12,000 people/year, and reduce the expense of hospital visits and medical care for those with chronic asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, etc by over a billion dollars/year. Yet the Obama administration punted once again, in a manner that retains ozone standards at the 1997 level. Of course the move is hailed by industry groups, who once again demonstrate their willingness to poison and kill the general population as long as it improves their profit margin. Anyone who expects industry to look out for our best interests is living in fantasy land. Unfortunately the same seems to be true of the government. I guess the best advise for now is just don't breathe. I'm not sure about downtown Atlanta as a purple blob, but taking off from Monroe (just East of Atlanta) as you go through 4-5,000 feet suddenly the sky becomes bluer, and on the horizon you can see a definite line where everything lower down is enveloped in rusty brown smog. People have no idea of the shit they are forced to breath all day, every day. Don_____________________________________ Tolerance is the cost we must pay for our adventure in liberty. A cousin of mine just got the same diagnosis. (and they think the cause is the same) If you got really bad heart burn people, get it checked. Small cell lung cancer has no symptoms until it may be too late. Yes, even you Amazon. GeorgiaDon 380 #18 September 4, 2011 Sorry about your dad. Really. My "irony meter" post was about you addressing that post to yourself. I can't see how you associated it with the post about your dad's cancer, but that certainly wasn't my meaning. Acid reflux can be associated with cancer, but that outcome is made more likely if someone's lungs have additionally been damaged by smoking, excessive ozone exposure, etc. I think it's a sad situation when businesses knowingly put their profit ahead of people's health. Sometimes I wish I believed in karma. Don_____________________________________ Tolerance is the cost we must pay for our adventure in liberty.
