The economics however just don't seem to match up from what I have seen.

If one believes less regulation, lower taxes, and domestic drilling will create jobs, then yes, one will vote republican (rich or poor)

If one believes increased regulation, higher taxes and no domestic drilling will create jobs, then they will probably vote democrat (rich or poor)

That aside, back on topic. Neither side seems to have any ones best interests. Especially those in the middle class. However, the Democrats appear to be slightly, and the key words are appear and slightly, more in favor of availability of basic social services and closely watched corporate governance to ensure transparency and level playing field.

To me this is where you argument falls apart.
You are starting from a false premise to begin with

First off, republicans are not against basic social services (of course they will most likely be an argument about what basic is)

Obamacare is not about basic social services for an example. I goes way past that

Republicans are not agains good schools with small class numbers. They are against inflated school costs that come from union and tenured teachers who cant teach drawing money when they cant teach. Just look at the suspended teachers in Chicago and New York who have to come sit in a room for eight hours to get paid but, because of some action they can not be in contact with any students. Yet they cant be fired.

Republicans do not want dirty water and air. But when over reaching regulations are inflicted on business they drive companies out of the country and people out of business

Same for regulations on business. Where does it stop?

And if you really think about it, it is a level playing field the left wants today? Or is it equal outcomes they like similar to what those like dreamy are pushing toward?

Our biggest problem is our government.

They (the parties)appear to be oposites but I no longer believe that. They want the same outcome (gov power and control) they just have different paths to the same end. And as long as they have us fighting like they do, they can keep deviding and winning

Liberals want the gov to take care of the people. Conservatives want people to take care of themselves. It is harder work the conservative way but people are usually much happier.

The other side ends up acting like dreamdancere with stupid statements like the poor are not allowed to vote. And living with the big green monster living on their shoulder that keeps telling them they are getting screwed so the gov needs to take from those who earn it and give it to those who think they have a right to it

And when that does not happen they go crying to the gov or mommy (who are the same in some cases)

Guns.

Although there are exceptions in both directions, the majority of Pro-gun pols are R and the Anti-gun are mostly D.

And gun rights
folk are often single issue voters. They may hate the R's stance on a lot of social issues, but vote for them (or against the D's) because of their stance on gun rights.

Politicians appear to count on single issue voters because campaign stances are distributed amongst parties in an insane manner. I find it extremely difficult to agree with even a majority of what any candidate promotes. It reminds me of the territory claiming at the beginning of the game RISK, it starts out with people trying to grab a whole continent and then devloves into blocking tactics and pretty soon everyone's just got armies all over the map.

What's even worse than, and all too often combined with, single issue voters are straight-ticket voters. When a presidential candidate for a party says something you don't like and you run to polls and vote for a city councilperson, mayor, district board of education member, congressperson, senetor, governer, comptroller, etc. for the opposing party there's no end to the potential damage you can do to your own well-being.

Republicans are the party of really bad ideas. The Democrats are the party of really no ideas.

Very well said! Very well said!
Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay.

The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools!
