Reports are coming in via Syrian dissidents that Mu'amar Gaddafi has been shot dead in vicinity of Rixos Hotel. Will be interesting to see if confirmed in the next 24 hours.

Seif Al Islam Gaddafi currently reportedly trapped inside said hotel.

I'm not seeing that moving on any of the bajillion sources I have. Where are you seeing that?

AJ English has an update in 2 minutes. I would expect to see it mentioned there if anywhere.

Yeah, that's moving on Twitter too, but Twitter is incredibly unreliable in terms of sorting rumor from truth.

Still, no reports I can see anywhere that say Gaddafi himself is dead.

Watching the same presser on AJ English...

He's scared, blaming attacks on NATO but calling for a NATO ceasefire, which tells me Gaddafi is still alive hunkered down somewhere trying to get this guy to buy time.

If Gaddafi was actually dead, this guy wouldn't even being showing his face.

Doesn't sound like he's going to admit anything. News is full of disinformation on both sides, bloody hard to tell the real picture. However Syrian rebels seem to think the Libyans got him, personally I would think if they had him we'd have heard about it but having said that I doubt they would admit to his death straight away.

If this guy knew Gaddafi was dead, this guy wouldn't show his face; he'd flee.

I agree, its possible the news is incorrect. Its possible that the news is true and the guy doesn't know. Gaddafi is a survivor it, unless his bodyguard turned on him I'd be surprised if he is dead. People on the ground don't even know what is going on, only time will tell.

Not a hope, Russian would not tolerate it and there is no benefit in doing so for NATO. Why would anyone want to stick their hand into that hornets nest?

I am not sure, exactly, but the US of A has a track record of doing much, much dumber things of late.

It's like we are trying to prove "this time it's different!," going forth and duplicating actions that have destroyed empires each and every time they were tried.

I was in France while we were in the middle of Operation Sandbox (or whatever the hell it was), and a fellow asked me "No offense, but are you Americans crazy?"

"I suspect we are."

Don't want to sound like the tin foil hat brigade but a pattern does seem to be emerging. Hugo Chavez started talking about dropping the dollar and using the Euro for oil transactions and was immediately turned upon by the USA and made Banana republic of Evil, (he then drop the idea and disappears from the potential attack radar) Saddam said he'd do the same and within six months he was at war with the West, Gaddafi suggests to the African Union that they drop the dollar and the Euro and use the Gold African Dinar and is attacked by NATO. This despite having yanked the chain of every western Government for 42 years with not much of a response (relatively speaking).
I wonder if Assad started talking about using another currency if he too would be attacked?
