Rick Perry is a kook

Recommended Posts

I saw this:
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/seven-ways-rick-perry-wants-change-constitution-131634517.html

What Perry Wants to do:
1. Abolish lifetime tenure for federal judges by amending Article III, Section I of the Constitution

2. Congress should have the power to override Supreme Court decisions with a two-thirds vote

3. Scrap the federal income tax by repealing the Sixteenth Amendment.

4. End the direct election of senators by repealing the Seventeenth Amendment

5. Require the federal government to balance its budget every year

6. The federal Constitution should define marriage as between one man and one woman in all 50 states

7. Abortion should be made illegal throughout the country

First, let me say that I AGREE with No. 4. I also have a philosophical agreement with No. 3.

The rest of them? He's off his rocker.

1. Abolishing lifetime tenure of federal judges is despicable. It's the ONE branch that doesn't have to worry about being elected. Sure, I have my problems with activist judges, but I'm willing to accept judicial activism over cronyism and politicking. The Constitution have portions in it that both the left and the right wish weren't there. Perry would ELIMINATE a check and balance of politics.

2. Overriding SCOTUS decisions? WHat the FUCK is guy thinking? He's not stupid. He's a sneaky bastard. This idea means the Constitution is USELESS as protective of floor rights. This IS a stepping stone to dictatorship.

3. Scrapping income tax? I can see reasons to do that. Good ones. Great ones. But abolishing is a bit bad.

4. Going back to state Legislatures electing senators. I'm all for it. A Senator is little more than a six year representative. Take away the public campaigning and we take away the electioneering.

5. Requiring a balanced budget - some years you can't. I'd prefer to see something that requires balanced budgets eight out of ten years except in cases of war.

6. Federal COnstitution defining marriage - NO. That's a police power for the states.

7. Abortion illegal throughout the country? No. Again, police power. Let the states decide.

Rick Perry's positions SCARE me. With his Article III positions he is advocating a fundamental change to checks and balances - he's no better than FDR in that respect.

I can't see the American public voting for amendments to make the changes suggested.

IMO, the 17th *should* be scrapped and R v. W should be a state issue. I agree with the balanced budget amendment issue as a concept - I like your idea regarding wartime situations.

Rick Perry is also the one who pushed for young girls in Texas to be innoculated for cervical cancer with a drug that had not even been approved by the Food & Drug admin.! Perry recieved campaign contributions from Merck, the producer of the drug. Too many of his actions would lead one to believe, he's bought-off. His big push to get more Chinese crap to the 'dollar' stores and other things he's done... yeah, he's sneaky!

I'm Republican and I am not sold on his entire ideology. An override to Supreme Court decisions by Congress would be homicide on liberty..... any Republican would tell you that.

I will give him kudos on abolishing the direct election of senators. Senators are the interest of the states, not the people.

Regarding abortion, I know I'm going to take bullets from my liberal skydiver friends but I'm all for this. No need to rehash this again but I cant justify extermination of the innocent in the name of convenience.

It's Sunday morning.... I hope it's blue skies for most of us today! ;)

Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

I despair of the body politic as it exists in the US today, and the countless cretins, morons and ne'erdowells seeking (and achieving) high office in this land do not give much cause for hope.

Prior to Bush the Younger becoming the Grand Poobah, one would suspect he was a ringer. His track record in Texas seemed to be one of balanced leadership, and his folksy malapropisms but a ruse to sucker the unwary into underestimating him.

Once in Washington, however, it was as though his IQ was cut in half on the spot. His syncophants (Cheney et al.) have been blamed for the most evil of his actions, but he was still willing to sign off on the most odious and onerous policies and legislation.

Fast forward to Perry. He has not even cleared Austin and he is one of the most despicable presences in politics today - on a par with Pelosi or Schumer. Send him into the ethical black hole that is Washington and all bets are off.

Ron Paul is the only candidate on either side of the aisle that has either a clue or integrity (the Golden Child is, after all, a lawyer). Unfortunately, there is a very small market for for either intellect or integrity in this country (think "Snooki").

One can only hope that Perry is just pretending to be an amoral dunderhead, or that the other candidates are only acting the part of superstitious twits to appeal to the electorate, and that, once elected, they will turn out to be enlightened and competent leaders.

Not bloody likely.

Smells like bullshit. Lets see what a little checking reveals...

Yep. It's bullshit. The HPV vaccine Gardasil was approved in june 2006 (and CDC recommends its use), Perry added it to the required vacination list in february 2007:)

Whats more likely?
A) He was a genius who used his intellect to propel him to the top spot and once he got there became dim.

B) He was always an idiot who's family connections kept him out of the crap until he was so in the limelight that his IQ was exposed for the world to see.

Hmmm.... B me thinks.

[lawrocket] Calling people "stupid"
then
[lawrocket] Rick Perry is a kook

Wait . . . what?

Yep. It's not a matter of stupidity or lack of intelligence. And not a matter of insanity.

I am well aware of what I called him. And I explained why he is a kook! Not a moron. Not a schizophrenic. A kook - a deliberately chosen word that is ripe with personal feeling and puffery, Not a word that is objectively verifiable.

The backpedaling begins. Somehow stupid doesn't quite capture how incredibly inept this guy can be.

I didn't do my research enough to understand that we needed a conversation with our citizenry

What kind of politician doesn't require dialogue with those they represent?

Autocrats
Dictators
Fascists

He doesn't strike me as a communist so I wonder which of the above he is?
The fact that he had to do research to tell him he needs to talk with the people says masses about this worrying individual.

I stand corrected! It's true! You really can look-up one subject and get two different storien from the internet!:D The bottom line is, Rick Perry is in bed with big business and profiting from it. I do know, his 'pushing' for mandatory injections of that cancer vaccine, pissed-off a whole bunch of people here in the State... especially women's groups.

He's obviously trying to win-over the 'Bible Belt'. He wins the 'Bible Belt', he gets a huge a number of votes and donation money. He is definately opportunistic. During our drought (which is still, continuing) Perry forms a prayer group to pray for rain. Our 'rainy season' was a bit late but it fell right into Perrys hands... we got some rain. No where near our annual rainfall but rain, none the less. Now, he's a damned hero! :D

I'm flabbergasted that Perry supported this vaccine, most conservatives went ape shit thinking this would turn 11 year old girls into sluts. I could never figure out who would think reducing the risk of cancer for their child is a bad thing.

I didn't make the quote you credit me with.
I think, the big thing was the side-effects of the drug and the idea of the governor forcing something on people. People don't seem to care for that. There was a lot of mis-information about the drug. Also, when it was learned that Merck was a financial supporter of Perry, it didn't set well.
