Republican Pussies Charging for Town Hall Meetings

Recommended Posts

Quote

If it's not part of a campaign fund-raising activity, but just an elected representative reporting to his constituency, then I'm frankly uncomfortable with charging an entry fee.

That being said, the House ethics rules expressly permit it, within limitations:

http://ethics.house.gov/Subjects/Topics.aspx?Section=132#orgs_registration_fee

See, specifically, the section entitled, "Charging a Registration Fee to Event Participants"; but for a fuller overview, scroll up to the beginning and read the whole page.

House ethics rule or not, I still don't like the idea that a Congress member can make it impossible for you to simply listen to your elected representative report to his constituency - meaning, report to you - without paying money. Poor people will simply not attend, and that's directly counter to the inclusiveness needed for a legitimate democratic republic. Listening to your Congressman report to you should be a right, not a paid privilege.

It's the venue charging for the meal, not the Congressman charging for the privilege of hearing them speak.

Invalid or dishonest conclusion (or more likely both).

Hmmm

since you are the practicing site expert on these, you tell me
"America will never be destroyed from the outside,
if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I would hope that you can appreciate the difference between someone running for a position, as opposed to someone who is already elected to that position.

While it is true Hilary was a member of Congress while she ran for President, you would not expect Governor Rick Perry or Rep. Michelle Bachmann to have all of their campaign events public.

Quayle was elected and Ryan re-elected in the 2010 Congressional elections, so that's out.

Next smear attempt?

You miss the point once more, I said someone who is running (Bachmann and Perry) can have private campaign events, this is nothing new. Elected members of Congress have always had meetings with their constituents, now these 2 pussies are charging (Even though they could expense the cost)
to have ANY face time with their Congressman.

I thought the tea party was in favor of a more open Government with the people having more direct access.

I thought all of you tea baggers carried a copy of the constitution in your pocket.

http://topics.law.cornell.edu/wex/First_amendment

so being responsible and not adding to the governments cost is breaking the constitution? charging for a meal is illegal? you need better than that.

I believe a person should have the right to meet with his Congressman with out having to pay a fee, buy dinner or whatever. This is a pretty simple proposition.

Could you imagine the outrage from the TP if they were charged by Democrats to attend town hall meetings on healthcare.

It just amazes me that all the tea party backers here, who's main battle cry is that the little guy be heard from his Government, can't see anything wrong with this.

Show me a Dem Congressman that does not provide a free venue with his constituents. And if you can, that Democrat is a pussy

at least they are available unlike the dems were during the health care. Also if I was the owner of the establishment I would charge a fee also. Why is it that many Dem's think that everything is free to them? you want to sit at a table and eat, you can pay like the rest of us.

You do have a short memory, you don't recall teabaggers frothing at the mouth demanding the Government keep their hands off of Midi-care? who could forget.

I don't want to sit at a table and eat, I want access to my congressman a couple times a year for free. That you would think a person must pay to talk to their congressman is so fucking moronic, I feel sorry for you.

These Republicans are not pussies, they have town hall meetings for free.

You're *STILL* laboring under the mistaken assumption that paid dinners are town hall meetings?

Incorrect, I am laboring under the notion that anyone can have free access to their Congressman at least a couple of times a year. Just like the rest of the Republicans and Democrats do. That means face to face, not having a visit by their "Mobile office staffers" It is a simple concept, Congress has been doing it and still continue to do it, except for these 2 pussies.

I don't know quayles motive, but the last time Ryan did this, he had his ass handed to him and now he is a pussy.

Show me a Democrat that will not have free town hall meetings and i'll cal him a pussy.
