QuoteQuoteQuoteI would hope that you can appreciate the difference between someone running for a position, as opposed to someone who is already elected to that position.
While it is true Hilary was a member of Congress while she ran for President, you would not expect Governor Rick Perry or Rep. Michelle Bachmann to have all of their campaign events public.
Quayle was elected and Ryan re-elected in the 2010 Congressional elections, so that's out.
Next smear attempt?
You miss the point once more, I said someone who is running (Bachmann and Perry) can have private campaign events, this is nothing new. Elected members of Congress have always had meetings with their constituents, now these 2 pussies are charging (Even though they could expense the cost)
to have ANY face time with their Congressman.
I thought the tea party was in favor of a more open Government with the people having more direct access.
I thought all of you tea baggers carried a copy of the constitution in your pocket.

QuoteFirst, Quayle did hold a job fair for 1000 people, commendable. He did not take questions from his constituents, remember when the Democrats took questions during the healthcare debate?
How do you know - did you attend, or are you pulling it out of your 5th point of attachment like the rest of your posts on the thread?
I love you, Shannon and Jim.

QuoteQuoteOh really. So if I just show up at a Presidential event where people are paying $10k a seat (and being served a rather mediocre meal) to hear the President speak I'll just be allowed in because 'the Constitution guarantees accees'?
First of all, the President is not a member of Congress.
No where does the Constitution say you have the right to chat with the President, it does say you have the right to redress Congress.
Incorrect.
"The incorporation doctrine later expanded the protection of the right to its current scope, over all state and federal courts and legislatures, and the executive branches of the state[1] and federal governments."

So just to make sure I understand what you are saying, Congress should be able too charge for town hall meetings?

Except it's already been proven that they AREN'T. Sucks to be your argument.

I must have missed where the redress of grievances requires direct, face-to-face access - got any case law supporting that or is that something you've made up, too?

Yup - just like all you libs carry a copy of Mao's "Little Red Book".

so being responsible and not adding to the governments cost is breaking the constitution? charging for a meal is illegal? you need better than that.

That being said, the House ethics rules expressly permit it, within limitations:
http://ethics.house.gov/Subjects/Topics.aspx?Section=132#orgs_registration_fee
See, specifically, the section entitled, "Charging a Registration Fee to Event Participants"; but for a fuller overview, scroll up to the beginning and read the whole page.
House ethics rule or not, I still don't like the idea that a Congress member can make it impossible for you to simply listen to your elected representative report to his constituency - meaning, report to you - without paying money. Poor people will simply not attend, and that's directly counter to the inclusiveness needed for a legitimate democratic republic. Listening to your Congressman report to you should be a right, not a paid privilege.
Poll tax, anyone?

Invalid or dishonest conclusion (or more likely both).

Second, Ryan announce that his mobile office with staffers will be taking questions? what a pussy. I can call the WH and talk to some idiot who takes questions too.
You do know their is a difference in talking to the real guy?
The Dems took their lumps from their constituents on healthcare. these 2 are pussies.
They are afraid of this:
