This segment illustrates the greatness of Stewart (and I lump Corbert with him) - he'll support or attack either end of the spectrum when warranted. I suspect he's dying for an intelligent candidate, too.

kelpdiver 2 #6 August 16, 2011 QuoteWhy does Ron Paul have no chance of getting the Republican nomination? Libertarians have a very clear platform that is a bit impractical on the implementation side. But in his case, it may be as simple as he represents most of what the GOP claims to be, but abandoned a long time ago. He's also very direct in his speaking in an era where most presidential candidates (as well as Supreme Court nominees) try to avoid being tied down to any belief. The GOP primaries tend to be winner take all. McCain got a large minority in most of the 2000 contests, but the nomination was a done deal. If he was operating under the Democratic process, he might have had enough delegates to give him leverage at the convention. Paul is in the same boat - if he keeps getting results like this straw poll he'll be able to run the full campaign, but still not be close on delegate count. But he will be able to deliver his message and that should help shape the debate away from the nonsense. I suspect that is his objective at this point. quade 4 #7 August 16, 2011 QuoteWhy does Ron Paul have no chance of getting the Republican nomination? Oh dear, when the #2 person in the Republican Iowa straw poll doesn't get coverage by FoxNews, that should tell you quite a bit about who does and who doesn't support him. He appeals to quite a few people, just not any of the ones with actual power in the GOP.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
