THIS bodes well for the upcoming elections

..if it holds

(Reuters) Consumer sentiment dropped to its lowest point in more than three decades in early August, as fears of a stalled recovery gelled with despair over government policies, a survey released on Friday showed.

Quote

"Never before in the history of the surveys have so many consumers spontaneously mentioned negative aspects of the government's role," survey director Richard Curtin said in a statement.

Yep. The Tea Party could be the shortest lived phenomena in US politics in decades if people really dislike them as much as polls indicate.

you are really scared of them :D

not to mention your news sources are really screwing you over (if your posts on the tea party are any indication):D

I think the most interesting thing to watch will be the Congressional elections. I think a LOT of folks are pretty pissed at Congress for not working together to deal with the budget crisis. That's not something within the control of the President and the current Congressional approval ratings are among the lowest on record.

Why you pick on one group or another is beyond me.

As far as raw, unbridled stupidity goes, the Democrats can give ANYBODY a run for their money.

We are witnessing fallout from damage that was inflicted over a long period of time by an extensive list of players.

If you want to use the opportunity to bash one group or another, knock yourself out - but it baffles me as to why you would waste the time to do so.

Seems you and billvon did not notice I said nothing about the president or any speific canidated or anyone in office

This is about getting the god damned government off our backs

Senators, Reps, Presidents had better all take notice

And the Tea Party, (that billvon is so afraid of) is a driving force and will remain so

It appears to me he is just following the lead of his favorite media sources

Remember the blame the media was trying to lay at the feet of the tea party in regards to the down grade of the US credit rating?

The Tea Party is a force. It will reamain so

Therefore the left has to try and destroy it

Same for Palin and other Republican canidates

The ones they fear the most are the ones they most try and destroy.

An example of this in reverse is McCain.

They saw him as no threat

Yup, saw a poll earlier this week that indicated that the majority of voters have a negatie opinion of their own congressman. That is in contrast to the long time trend for voters to have a negative view of congress overall but believe the his/her own congressman is swell. Be interesting to see if that translates to wholesale changes or not.

The only way that there will be big changes here is in the primaries. Let's take Steny Hoyer, for example. Most Congresspersons don't face serious challenges from the opposing party. In situations like this, you'll find members of Congress campaigning that they tried to do good things but were stonewalled by everybody else.

For someone like Steny Hoyer, the challenge has to come during the primaries. I mean, he's really solidly entrenched. A Republican doesn't stand a chance so it has to be a Democratic challenger.

The other thing, however, that can affect this election is redistricting. with the Anger at Congress and the the new congressional districts, there may indeed be some SIGNIFICANT movement.

Perhaps you are right, lawrocket. I find it interesting that people have gotten angry enough (at least that is how I interpret it) to move from: the system is rotten but my guy is OK to the system is rotten and my guy is a part of it too.

I don't know what the angry voter does w/ that decision, though. Choices are limited and throwing all the bums out oftne leaves you with just another set of bums in there.

Sad but true....but hopefully teaches the new set of bums what won't be tolerated.

Did they do their usual oversampling of Dems?

"The survey includes an oversample of 376 non-Hispanic blacks, consisting of 88 interviews done as part of the random national sample and 288 interviews with blacks who had previously participated in national Gallup Polls and agreed to be re-interviewed at a later date. "

Ah, I see they did... and random adults instead of voting adults.

If we did as "we the people" vote the bums out it might take a cycle or two - time that we don't have - but in the end I wonder if the message wouldn't get out that the people as a whole are getting tired of such shitty governoring? They would respond because they live for re-election.

IOWA:

1. Bachmann

2. Paul

Is the GOP trying to lose in 2012?

:D

All better than what we currently have

All would beat Obama

as would Elmer Fudd

But in the end it really does not matter who runs against Obama

You and the left would treat them all the same regardless

Most of you guys have a much more positive view than I do. Try as I might, I cannot convince myself that the American people can get their act together enough to make ANY significant change in how our goobermint treats us.

You may succeed in getting your guy into office. You will then have succeeded in putting just a different bozo in place of the outgoing bozo. History supports that and I cannot get myself to believe that the future will be any different.

I DO support the idea of trying to make things better. I'm just jaded enough to think that it's not going to happen. I do what I can on a direct personal level but some things are way beyond an individual's ability to change.

Party affiliation has nothing to do with it. It's funny how all parties are pointing at each other saying, "It's HIS fault!". The funny part is they are ALL correct!

My reality and yours are quite different.

Not much to argue about here

I just have to think there is a chance

And the only way we get a chance when is gets so bad more people are paying attention

and then KEEP paying attention and letting the elected numb skulls know we are always watching

It certainly matters to the outcome. Bachman isn't beating Obama. Nor is Palin. If electing an intelligent but inexperienced guy didn't get the job done, why would the people try unintelligent and inexperienced people to try?

The GOP has a winnable election, but they seemed determined to fail. Very much unlike 1999 where they were so eager to jump on a single candidate early that they nominated Bush before a single primary, and quickly brushed aside McCain in the process. This time, no such cohesion.

Your memory is a bit inaccurate. McCain won primaries in New Hampshire, Michigan, Arizona, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
