But like Louis XVI, British authorities are paralyzed by their indifference to their own civilization. A half-century of berating themselves for the crime of being British has left them morally defenseless. They see nothing about England worth saving, certainly not worth fighting for -- which is fortunate since most of their cops don't have guns.

Almost as much as Hazel Blears who demanded in the westminster debate today " People need to ask why, are these kids not at school".... Er its the school summer holidays :S:S:S Doh!!!!

No doubt she was to busy diddling her expenses to notice.

I happened to read this article. Britain's rioters: young, poor and disillusioned

Mmmkay. Then this part got to me:
Quote

Many of the youths themselves struggle to find any plausible answer, but a widespread sense of alienation emerges from their tales.
"Nobody is doing nothing for us — not the politicians, not the cops, no one," a 19-year-old who lives near Tottenham, the blighted London neighborhood where the riots started.

The statement has plenty of things in it. First and foremost, he didn't list his "parents" as somebody who would be expected to do something for him. But then again, he is 19 so one would think that he should be an adult.

But that's what got me - he also didn't list himself as one of of those doing nothing for him. People, cops, the government, etc., are supposed to do it for him. Do something for himself?

The only thing they will do for themselves is loot? Unless the government takes care of them then they will riot and loot? Commit property crimes? Deal drugs? Commit assaults? Robberies?

I'm disheartened to see that America is not the only place where poverty pimps have created a culture of dependency.

The BPA idea is a fairly good one.

To make it work I think it would need to be static line.

Headline: Baseball bats, police batons online sales boom in UK

Quote: "Sales of baseball bats and batons have shot up more than 5,000 percent in the last 24 hours on Amazon's British website, as London suffered its worst violent unrest in decades."

Its a very popular sport John ;)

Yes, judging from the massive sales of baseball bats since the riots started, Brits must be abandoning their traditional game of cricket in droves, to take up the classic American version of baseball.

The odd thing is that the sale of collapsible shovels has also skyrocketed. Perhaps the same people who are buying the baseball bats, are also planning ahead to bury the bodies of the punks that they whack with their bats.

I think the measure of the woman is how she manages to be so disturbingly racist in a rant that's ostensibly about the welfare state.

Very interesting and salient observations. Nothing will change unless WE change it. We're down but not out. My urge is to get the hell out of here, bugger off to Canada or Australia or New Zealand like so many of my peers have done. But I have decided to stay and make a difference.

That sounds good, there are also several public enterprise funding sources out there for social enterprises.

Well we haven't as many facilities for baseball as you have over there John, we have to make our pitches first and we've only just woken up to the idea that the 'World' series only has a couple of nations in it. Seeing as we suck at Football these day we figured we stand a chance of being 'World' champs at something after all!!

they obviously crave a bit of adrenaline...

They don't lack adrenaline.

They lack parents that are worth a damn. They lack community that teaches respect for other people and for the value of hard work.

They don't need a hug, they need a boot on their neck because they are worthless thugs. None of them would have the balls on their own to confront and look in the eyes of the people whose lives they destroyed.

Cowardly little shits.

Never knew you even played football ... just kidding.

On a different note, I am glad to see the rioters took a break last night. Hopefully things will calm down now. The last thing this world needs is London burning itself down. It remains to be seen if you actually prosecute and sentence them (if they are found guilty). But at least you folks in the UK do something better than your colonists here in Canuckistan. Remember the Vancouver riots from a couple of months ago? Not a single person ... I repeat ... not one person ... has been charged with a crime let alone been prosecuted and sentenced for their destruction despite thousands and thousands of hours of video evidence.

What would be appropriate if they were burning down your house, business and general livelihood.

I guess you are just going to sit there and scream at them while foaming at the mouth.

That might actually keep them away from your stuff! Sounds scary. :o
