I was out riding this weekend. put about 350 miles on the bike.
I tried to count how many 'Help Wanted" signs I saw.
I stopped counting at 100.
Sure, most weren't 30k+ jobs. But it would sure beat the hell out of unemployment.

Even if I believed you, which BTW I don't because who the fuck counts shit like that, what you're saying is you found 1 job every 3.5 miles.

I don't know where the heck you live, but the population density around my house is a bit higher than that and wouldn't even begin to put a dent in the unemployment rate.

I was counting because I knew it would make good fodder for SC. No kidding.
Mix of urban and rural riding. Businesses hiring ranged from fast food joints to hardware stores to manufacturing facilities hiring skilled labor.
We have created a society that says it is ok to refuse jobs because you feel they are beneath you. We not only say it is ok, we support the idea.
Instead of a worker getting laid off and being able to collect unemployment because he said he couldn't find a job and was able to get a handful of people to say he applied for work at their establishments, we should be offering that man a job at whatever joint needs help. If he doesn't want the work...fine. No unemployment benefits for him.
It's bullshit that there are places hiring, regardless of number, when people are collecting checks from the government.

In response to your first question...see my response to Amazon.

Legal or not, tax dollars are being used for other than living expenses. That is a slap to the face of the taxpayer. Why should Joe Taxpayer support those who would rather drink all day? The same goes for people who rather use drugs. Tax dollars should not support addictions to alcohol, drugs, food... Tax dollars should be used to screen recipients and then to treat those who are able to get well enough to go back to work. Simply dumping people who have substance abuse/mental health problems onto the streets will create a greater problem for the agencies (namely, the police departments) that will, ultimately, have to address the problem. They will need a bigger budget in order to do so. We all know how Reagan's policy to dump the mentally ill onto the streets went. Increase in crime, overworked police, clogged courts, and overcrowding in the prison system.
It's a good idea if used to treat the problems that got them there in the first place. It's a bad idea if all it does is put people out onto the street.

In response to the rest of your post....why should the government concern itself with supporting everybody who can't or won't get a job? I know it sounds harsh and uncaring, but stop giving handouts to everyone that asks for one and you'll suddenly find people really can find work.

The government should not support those who flat out refuse to work. There will always be that small section in society that prefer skid row. On the other-hand, we, as a people, have a responsibility to support those who cannot work, or who want to work, but have problems that are barriers. Again, I am for the testing if the results are used to identify the barriers and to get over those barriers. I am against any program that will push a problem off on another department. There is no cost savings in doing such.

I am for the drug tests because people coillecting welfare should be abiding by the laws of the country and state that is giving them money. Weed and crack are illegal. What about that concept is so difficult for you to comprehend? Make consumption of alcohol illegal and I'll agree to testing for it as well.
"The government should not support those who flat out refuse to work. There will always be that small section in society that prefer skid row."
I agree 100%. Problem is, liberals refuse to allow any method of culling that segment out for fear of losing that voting demographic.

Sure, a few people are hiring, but not enough people to seriously dent the unemployment rate.

Further, not every job gives the same preference to hiring everybody.

Lemme give you a for instance.

There is currently a $9,000 tax credit for hiring certain people as long as they meet certain qualifications. Now, I'm not begrudging those people a job; not at ALL. However, if I were were to apply for the exact same minimum wage job, there's a good chance I'd be out of luck because, let's be honest here, why the hell would anyone hire one guy for a minimum wage position when they can hire another guy AND receive a $9,000 tax break?

That is across the board corporate welfare for companies that hire minimum wage workers AND fucks over people outside of the bracket of people that qualifies.

Right now it's a buyer's market. Employers can be and are being incredibly cheap with labor. They KNOW that just around the corner is another guy begging for even a crappy minimum wage job and if they can hire somebody and have the government pick up 1/3 of their annual wage, why the hell not pick that guy over another guy that doesn't qualify.

What that means is, if you're NOT a part of that group, you're pretty well fucked in the minimum wage market.

This is WAY more complex than saying people JUST need to go out and get a job.

Unemployment currently rewards those that aren't working and if someone takes a job a few steps down, their unemployment stops. People currently can actually lose money by working. :S

As I've stated before, we should stop calling it unemployment and start calling it transition. The initial qualifications would be the same. The difference would be that it would be a set amount for a set period of time, regardless of future employment. The only exception would be those that proved they had new jobs could elect to take a lump sum payment of half what they were left due.

Much harder to defraud. :)

Definitely agree that shit needs to stop. It's basically a quota, but indirectly. :S

In a normal economy you might be right. However, today, that's simply not the case.

Sure there are those types of jobs and employers.
But their numbers are small compared to the rest of the market.
Face it, Quade. People are lazy and our government encourages and supports it.

Florida does some things right, not many of them but I like this law. My brother has been a long time food stamp and welfare recipient, and he now has to do comunity service to pay for his food stamps and check. The parks and city stuff in his town have never looked so good. He gets all the stuff from the state because he claims he cant find a job, now basically he works for the state at a much lower rate than he would make if he actually tried to find work.

I like that idea... I like it a lot. The welfare state of mind must be removed at all costs.... no work.. no pay.

It is goat fuck stupid to pay stupid women to have babies who will also be supid fucks. They need to set up group day care so they all can work at SOMETHING and instill some pride in earning a paycheck.. not sitting on their ass all day waiting for their next baby daddy to show up so they can get a pay raise in 9 months>:(

First sentence = intelligent. Second sentence = the rant of a bumbling idiot.

It sounds like you knocked someone up and are pissed that you have to pay for the kid now

Your post... FAIL... Fuck... can you even read?????

But that was some funny shit.... DUDE.... reallly... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, you do have bigger cajones than most men on the planet. Hey, it could happen.

So i Just did a quick job search on monster for job in my field. I'm a welder... I did a 6 months of formal training. The rest of my certification I have gained on the job.

Pretty much every city I looked at in the US had jobs advertised, with wages ranging from 30-50K+

Can't be that hard to find work.
Have you seen my pants?
