masterrig 1 #5 June 27, 2011 QuoteFuckin golden! Early on in this mess, there was mention in the news about Jesse Jackson having made a (for his son) bid to Blagojavich, for the vacancy left by Obama. I haven't heard anything more, since. JohnRich 4 #12 June 28, 2011 QuoteQuoteThat means that the last two mayors of Chicago have now been sentenced to prison for crimes. Factually incorrect. Neither Daley nor Sawyer has been indicted for anything. I read that in a news report somewhere, but now I can't find it again. I'll withdraw the comment. But there's still this: "Blagojevich is the 4th governor since 1973 to be convicted of a felony. The state has also seen an incredible run of other politicians and state officials being marched off to jail. At least 79 Illinois public officials have been convicted of wrongdoing since 1972, including now 4 governors, two other state officials, 15 state legislators, two congressmen, one mayor, three Chicago city officials, 27 Chicago aldermen, 19 Cook County judges, and seven other Cook County officials."Update: I hereby withdraw my withdrawal. I figured out what I did wrong - I said "mayor" instead of "governor". The last two governors of Illinois have been sentenced to prison. One source: http://www.npr.org/2011/06/27/137449931/blagojevich-jury-reaches-verdicts-on-18-of-20-counts Quote: "Before a national audience, the Blagojevich saga exacerbated Illinois' reputation for graft. A conviction would make Blagojevich the second Illinois governor in a row facing a prison sentence for corruption. His predecessor, former Gov. George Ryan, is serving a 6 1/2-year sentence." AndyBoyd 0 #16 June 30, 2011 Quotewhich really just means that Daley has so corrupted the Chicago area that they don't dare touch him. Actually, the federal prosecutors in the Northern District of Illinois have been very aggressive in going after corruption in Chicago. Some argue they have been too aggressive. If they had the goods on Daley, they would have gone after him, I'm sure. Either Daley was too dumb to be involved, or his people did a great job of insulating him from the dirty stuff, or both. The feds in Chicago have gone after mob bosses, gang leaders, and politicians of all kinds. I guarantee you they are not afraid of Daley.
