Crack down on Employers who Hire Illegals

Recommended Posts

I heard an interview with a farmer in Georgia, who did, in fact, try to hire locals to do his picking. He said that the overwhelming majority didn't last more than a day.

Now -- he can keep trying new workers who quit right away, or he can go back to using a proven quantity -- people who are willing and able to do the work, day after day.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Then he needs to hire legal migrant workers.

>So you think we need a scale to determine how illegal someone is?

We have scales for determining how illegal a drunk a driver is and how much to fine a speeding driver - so yes, there is precedent for that. Heck, we even have republicans defending a senator who broke the law, so even the right understands that on a very basic level.

Personally, if there's an illegal alien living in a house, paying his taxes, supporting his family and working hard at his job, I'm a lot less concerned than with an illegal alien who is helping other people enter the country illegally, panhandling for spending cash and living off some state welfare program. Are they both breaking the law? Definitely. Is one a bigger problem than the other? Definitely.

>how much longer are you planning on beating that horse?

As long as you keep up with your "enforce the law equally" nonsense. It makes you look pretty silly to be supporting both sides of that argument.

Nice spin - have fun with your Jello in that centrifuge, Bill.

This what I've been trying to say all along. You did a better job, and somehow without being a dick about it. Sorry I let myself get riled up.

>>That's not the result. The result is $4 per tomato with the same workers picking
>>tomatoes - just in Mexico instead of the US.

>so Dan is making up false boogeymen, you say?

I guess that depends on whether you worry more about the price of tomatoes or losing yet another industry to foreign competition.
