virgin-burner 1 #2 June 14, 2011 seriously, i'm a pretty good marksman, anyone else got some experience with dynamic / practical shooting!? i know, the first link is a pure RACE-gun, 2nd link is quite close to what i have learned on, the SIG 550. i remember a couple years back, i had a sphinx in my hand, and honestly, never touched a gun that was so obviously made to be shot.. while precision-shooting at 300 meters is quite fun.. i miss the dynamic parts of my infantry-days.. can there a comparison be made!? what is it like? “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. virgin-burner 1 #5 June 14, 2011 well, while competition is fun.. just shooting for the fun(club)-vibe of it.. is probably a lot like skydiving. you do it because you CAN! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #6 June 14, 2011 I never got serious about it, but a local club used to hold practice matches every week. I shot a few of those. It's lots of fun. It shows you where your deficiencies are in ways that slow fire doesn't. Grip, stance or trigger squeeze problems are magnified with the movements made. It also teaches you to (in the words of Wyatt Earp IIRC) to "Take your time in a hurry". It also gives you a chance to hang around with like-minded folk, from all walks of life, doing something enjoyable. Sorta like hanging out at the DZ. You don't need (or really want, even) a full "race gun" to start with. There are different divisions for different types of pistols. I always shot an "Out of the box" stock Colt Officer's 45. More reloads and recoil than some of the other stuff, but that's part of the fun too."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." GLIDEANGLE 1 #7 June 14, 2011 I used to shoot IPSC. I don't anymore. It was a lot of fun. I stopped shooting it over safety issues. The local shooters, course designers, and range safety officers were having trouble keeping all rounds on the range. After hearing rounds go over my head on an adjacent range and the death of a child at a local match due to a round leaving the range, I decided that it wasn't something I could support. I have no doubt that many shooters, course designers, range safety officers, and range operators are able to keep all the rounds on the range... But too many could not. There is much fun to be had in those matches, IF they are conducted safely. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
