However, on a side note...do we really believe God cares about any of this?

I mean, I could go on the rest of my life with out praying aloud. If anything, maybe with a few brothers in privacy.

The following scripture may not necessarily be relevant to this public prayer fiasco, but it's been on my mind:

Matthew 6:1-8
"Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

"Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

"And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

I never understood why some people get all upset because the courts rule that the schools can't have a prayer over the loudspeaker. I always wondered if they forgot about those verses, or if they just take it as some sort of insult to God or maybe them that they feel the need to defend. If its the latter, I'm pretty sure my God can defend himself and doesn't need me taking a case to the supreme court on his account.

I think at the same time telling a student they can't use certain words is a pretty big violation of free speech, but at the same time a student taking the mic and basically saying a prayer just to make some sort of statement is exactly what those verses are referring to.
