Schumer Calls For ‘Do Not Ride’ List For Amtrak

Recommended Posts

Completely impractical, although if implemented I suppose it would mean a huge employment opportunity by adding tens of thousands of TSA agents to train stations across the country, but who the hell would pay for that?

I was speaking with a train engineer just today about this matter. In his very practiced and knowledgeable opinion, the planned attacks would be on trains carrying biohazard and radioactive fuels, not passenger trains. Think of it, the destruction and devastation such an attack would have much more impact, with more lasting and long time effects.

Schumer is a idiot. Another big costs small results bullshit proposal.

What about a 'Do not go to the Mall" list, lots of sitting ducks in our retails centers.

What about a 'Do not ship via FedEx Air" list, lots of potential for cargo planes to start raining down across US population centers.

I could probably come up with a 100 more, none of which will add any appreciable increase in american security, and will have a huge tole in fiscal cost and cost to the american way of life.

Terrorists don't need to put a bomb on a train to take it out, they just have to take out the tracks. Having a "Do Not Ride" list will just assure that no terrorists are accidently on the train when it plummets over the side of a mountain.

Yeah, but it will probably make someone feel better, and that way Schumer can say he's "tough on terrorism."

And this is the basis for pretty much all our legislation today.

This one is unique in that it is a blatant example of all the others in that there is no subtlety at all in how it is SO stupid, and so useless, and SO EXPENSIVE.

This clearly proves, it's obvious that our politicians are one of four things:

1 - amazingly stupid
2 - they think we all are amazingly stupid
3 - they just don't care
4 - all of the above

What do you expect from an East Coast Democrat?

He's got to prove to the other Chicken Little's that he's good for something.

Just like the other's he believes in two things. There's always some more money to spend, and "somebody's GOT to DO something, and I'll be the one to take credit for that."

Don't forget, it would also provide us another place where we could all get out junk patted.

and "somebody's GOT to DO something,"

but why does it have to be the equivalent of impotently running in circles and flapping his arms on top of a giant burning pile of our money

Are there really New Yorkers who would feel better with this, not disgusted by their choice in senators?

stop 5 new yorkers on the street and ask them to name 10 different presidents, or the vice president, or a couple members of the supreme court.

ask them to pick utah off of a map - or spain - or madagascar

"Man on the street" interviews are FUNNY - until you realize they get to vote.

But I'm not asking them for this. He's been their senator for a very long time. I think those 5 people will score pretty well for identifying him, much better than the other questions.

Yep. There are thousands of miles of track, and it can't all be watched over to prevent vandalism. All the terrorists have to do is pull up some spikes to loosen a section of track, and a nice deadly derailment will occur. Do it over a high bridge to magnify the casualties, even better. A passenger-carrying train, of course. Or arrange for some hazardous cargo to derail in a high population area. This was the first thing I thought of when I heard that Osama had been planning rail terrorism.
