QuoteBetter be careful filming that ... Are cameras the new guns? Cops think so.
Here's a difficult situation as from a LEO view a gun could be disguised as a camera/cameraphone (or hidden by it) as well as a camera/cameraphone could be used as a weapon.
From a citizen view, they view the camera as a way to ensure the LEO does not overstep their bounds.
Most police cars have cameras in them for chases and traffic stops, perhaps LEO's should wear one as well.
Law enforcement banning people filming them makes them look as they do have something to hide so they definitelyneed to find another way.

Yeah heaven forbid the cops get filmed handing out their own personal justice the Divot and Twardo way, hell maybe those citizens referred to by the LEO community as SKELL PERP SCUMBAG etc... that does not COMPLY should just be shot as anti-social for daring to not COMPLY in our new and improved Homeland Security police state. I mean.. they could be terrorists hiding James Bondish super weapons disguised as a camera.

I don't know.. I am just one of those funny Americans that think justice is supposed to be handed out by the courts as put forth in that 200+ year old document that so many keep blithering over incessantly... not thugs in blue. Rule of law needs to apply to all!!!

I have to agree with this one. I've watched both videos several times and from what I saw they were in a grappling match until the cop slapped the woman in the face and set her off. Then the cop punches her with a cuff in his hand. Looks to me like the cop escalated the situation when it was his duty to diffuse it.
Must be something wrong with my computer box thingie, MINE shows her pulling on his arm, he brushes it off, then she pulls on his shirt collar area while he's trying to cuff the other girl...he throws one at her at which time she starts swinging the aforementioned deadly James Bond camera.
That's what I get for buying a DELL!

I don't really keep up on these things I guess, when did it become legal to attack a cop while he's trying to arrest someone?

Imagine the transcript from THAT hearing~
Ms. Barbie Bimbo:
"Well your Honor, he was trying to put handcuffs on my friend..which is totally un-cool since we get paid extra for that kinky stuff. So I started grappling with him when he SLAPPED me!"
"That reeeeally like, set me off... so I hit him a couple times with my Sony digi, the new one that daddy bought me for graduation...anyway, I only got a couple of good swings in when HE HIT ME BACK!"

"Daddy & Mommy never hit me when I hit THEM...please make him say sorry pookie & take that cop to the prison thing!"

Judge Dread: "Come here Barbie...Bailiff, slap her!"
They must have repealed the 2nd ancient law from the middle ages:
Don't start nuthin' ~ Won't BE nuthin'.

True, don't you know a MAC is better.

ETA: Personally, I think the chick got what she got because she was interfering. On the same token I think the cop could have done better with a can of pepper spray or a taser.

Pepper spray would not have been a great idea. Pepper spray is not a precise tool. It splashes or bounces into a cloud, depending on whether it's liquid or aerosol type. In that booth it would have probably contaminated both suspects, their bystand friend, both officers, and the star wars boys. Then the stink would've caused a stampede for the door and cost the restaurant a bunch of money. Also, pepper spray works best on people who are not all hyped up and ready to fight. Not so great on goal oriented, pissed off, or drugged subjects. Once they're swinging, OC isn't a go to option. All in all, poor choice.
A taser was a valid option, but they too work better with a bit of space. About seven feet is optimal, less than three problematic. A baton, while also justified, would've been a bad idea. Like I already said, there were choices earlier which might have prevented getting to the slap and punch part.
I have to say it's particularly pathetic that their best defense it "I didn't know he was a police officer."
Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards.

'Do unto others as they have done unto you'... yeah it's a real world law, that dates back to the middle ages.
In the left wing, hand wringing, poo bear for president, coffee sprinkles make everything all better world...off the top of my head (not an LEO) I see: Interfering with a police officer, resisting arrest, assault with a weapon, drunk and disorderly...basically, 'Felony Stupid.'
Could this situation been handled differently?
SURE, drunk little Barbie could have followed the officers instructions and nothing would have happened.
I'm not saying that all cops are always right in all situations, there is another unrelated vid that comes up on the linked page where a citizen gets the snot kicked out of him (on camera) for literally no reason. THAT cop should do time.
In the case in point, Barbie took a couple shots at Krispy Kreme going for his face and eyes, swinging with a 'weapon' in her dainty little hand...so she's proven in short order that not only will she not comply, she crazy as a shit house mouse...with a table full of knives and forks in front of her who knows what she was gonna try next.
Could be she very well may have been sporting a couple of .40 body piercings that none of her sorority would be envious of.
Barbie clearly showed aggressive physical escalation and total disregard for the law...she was swinging a metal object with force at the cops head. She got what she wanted, a fight.
And again as Divot so articulately pointed out, fight with a cop and you're gonna lose.
If you find yourself in a situation where you think a cop is over stepping his authority, smile & be compliant...then file a complaint with his superiors.
Here in Houston they televise the city council meetings, police misconduct & brutality is often brought up because it seems we have some real cowboys here that over step time and again. The path for complaint is clear and the results are discussed.
Some of these officers get disciplined, some fired, some get civil rights charges brought against them...THAT's the 'civilized' way of dealing with it.
