JohnnyMarko 1 #1 April 18, 2011 If you aren't aware of this tradition, it started in the 80's at all Chicago Blackhawks home games. During the singing of the "Star-Spangled Banner", everyone in the stadium cheers, and it's reached 120+ dB. It's a truly amazing experience that I've been present for about 20 times. Each time it seems louder and louder, I get the chills, and every hair on my body is standing straight up. Why is this in the SC? I wanted to get some of your opinions on the tradition and if you think it's disrespectful or patriotic. Ready, go. CanuckInUSA 0 #2 April 18, 2011 Quote During the singing of the "Star-Spangled Banner", everyone in the stadium cheers From 2000 through to 2004 I was a Colorado Avalanche season ticket holder and the fans in the Pepsi Can used to cheer during the playing of the National Anthem. But I doubt they were as loud as these Hawks fans. Quote Why is this in the SC? Didn't you get the memo? You a no longer supposed to be patriotic. The politically correct thing to do these days is tell the world how ashamed you are of your country and ask the world for their forgiveness as you engage in wealth redistribution schemes. Wow you got the memo..... AND have then proceeded to follow it. You certainly have that part down pat for your country... well done. Personally I am proud of my counrty....most of the time regardless of some of the fucknuggets who also live here who are not proud of it nor have lifted a finger to do anything like serve it in any way other than lip service. RonD1120 62 #6 April 18, 2011 Patriotic display. It's hard to believe that it comes from Chicago but, patriotic none the less.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. The loudmouths are usually whiners that run at any sign requiring real backbone. ... aphid 0 #12 April 22, 2011 Game 5 in Vancouver tonight. Marc Donnelly and the multitude. Now that's the way a National Anthem should be. I was in Russia in '06 for the World Meet (CRW) and I asked some local musicians to sing their anthem for me. (I happen to think the music is very moving). They couldn't. They knew neither the words and I discovered I carried the tune better than they could. Sad.

Back in the 1970's I once put together a tape to disorient the "criminals" in their dark dank little cells and I included excerpts of this....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U06jlgpMtQs The Russians kept the music... it seems but did a major rewrite on the words the Soviets cherished. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owNjMWkcZGk

The U.S. Anthem on the other hand is just plain hard to sing and rarely sung good. Why we don't have 'America the Beautiful' instead... I'll never know. 'The Good Ol' Hockey Game' on the other hand should be manditorily played before every game! I love that song! Chuck

Not sure if they still play it (I assume they do), but when I was a Colorado Avalanche season ticket holder from 2000-2004 they played it during the second intermission in every game just prior to the teams coming out onto the ice to start the third period. masterrig 1 #18 April 22, 2011 I've heard it played at Red Wings home games during local coverage with Mickey Redmond. I first heard it on 'Corner Gas'. Undoubtedly, one of the best shows on t.v.... EVER! It's a great song! Chuck
