2/3rds of US Corporations Pay Zero Federal Taxes: US Uncut Movement Builds to Make Them Pay Up

Recommended Posts

power to the people...

Quote

Saturday marked US Uncut’s second big nationwide protest. From coast-to-coast, more than forty cities joined in a day of action protesting the tax-dodging practices of massive corporations that they see as the real source of the country’s deficit.

“I’m tired of people calling for shared sacrifice and it’s all coming from the workers and nothing’s coming from the top,” says protester Dave Sonenberg. “I’m sick of companies like Bank of America not paying their taxes.”

Bank of America hasn’t paid a nickel in federal income taxes for the past two years, and in fact raked in an additional $1 billion in tax “benefits.” The bank is enjoying these profits after accepting $45 billion from taxpayers, which the company then got to count as a deduction when they paid back the money.

Unfortunately, it won't work here. We've got an enitre population drunk on the trickle down kool aid and they've got the majority on their side, plus they've got an enitre media network constantly spewing supportive propaganda. The only way it will change when the enitre system collapes.

Remind me again how many jobs you've gotten from the bum on the corner, Tink. Remind me again how prices never go up when the cost of business does.

and they've got the majority on their side,

Obama - 69.5 million
McCain - 59.9 million

Fox vs. NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc? Yeah, that's quite the monopoly that Fox has.

True -

Jobs I've gotten from corner bums: 0
Jobs I've gotten from rich people: 0
Jobs I've gotten from the Fire Dept: 1
Jobs I've gotten from me: (so far) 2

You mean like the fake panics over oil prices? Or the decision of a CEO that he wants a bigger boat? Or any of the other totally arbirary reasons inflation happens?

PRINCETON, NJ -- Thus far in 2009, 40% of Americans interviewed in national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal.

FNC's Total Day average of 820,000 viewers made up 54% of the cable news pie, nearly doubling CNN's 31% (468,000 viewers) and more than tripling MSNBC's 15% share (226,000 viewers).

So, 21% is a majority? Faux Noise is losing the ratings and rich people give me jobs. Yeah right.

So, tell us about those jobs where you actually have to account for costs - hired anyone yet, or still not making enough?

Fake panics over oil prices? Was *that* why Obama was thinking about tapping the Strategic Reserve? Maybe you should let him know there's nothing to worry about.

CEO wants a bigger boat? Sounds like that's employing boat builders, maintenance shops, dock/marina workers...why do you want all those people to be out of a job in this economy, Tink?

The DZO that raises jump prices after avgas goes up, the local grocer that raises prices when produce goes up... I'm sure that's just 'trickle down koolaid', too.

Fox - 820k

CNBC - 145k
HLN - 188k
Total: 1.027m, some 25% more than Fox.

Didn't claim Fox was losing the ratings, Tink - reading comprehension much? Oh, wait... IAFF member, nevermind answering.

Congratulations on your one millionth alternut rant. :S

So, how many people took part in this day of rage in forty cities? And why bitch about businesses doing what's legal. Go after the legislators making the laws.

By the way, what percent of citizens don't pay federal taxes?

They're not the only ones to report this. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=645&q=2%2F3rd+u.s.+companies+do+not+pay+taxes&btnG=Google+Search

This is nothing new. Ingersol Rand has been doing it for years.
I think it is shameful that many of these companies call themselves an "American Company" while employing few Americans and paying little to no taxes on their fortunes. All the while, enjoying the protection that the U.S. offers. Socialism, corporate style.

47% of US households, and 70% of US individuals, pay no tax at all. There's also a movement afoot to get these deadbeats to pay their fair share.

This should help to explain those numbers.

BOA didn't pay taxes in 2009 because they had a net operating loss. Please explain why a corporation should pay income tax when they have no taxable income?

The tax benefit is the result of carrying the loss back to offset taxable income in a prior year, the tax code allows that for both sole proprietors and corporations. Evil corporations evil evil!

They aren't taking a deduction on the principal payments on the government bail out debt, they are only taking a deduction on the interest.

Individuals do the same with their qualified mortgage interest, and interest on loans that their business may take out. Evil corporations evil evil!

These articles have a ton of spin, and they are written to try to outrage people that have little knowledge of how the tax code works!
