Amazon 7 #51 March 30, 2011 Quote Quote I am good with burying a criminal in jail for life if they use a gun in the commission of a crime. This is right out of the NRA handbook. Indeed, I myself support the thought that a person who uses a weapon in the commission of a crime should face culpability and be responsible for same. However, I also think a a person who commits a crime WITHOUT a weapon should ALSO be culpable. The weapon itself has very little to do with it, in my mind. Would you put them in jail for life for using a knife? How about a claw hammer? A garotte? How is shooting somebody different from stabbing them? Aside from the distance involved I cannot see much difference. It's the focus on the gun instead of the act that I have a problem with. Oh no.. all violent criminals who use anything else must be immediately released back into society.. its societies fault they were made that way maybe they should all be required to beg for forgivness in the local rePUBIClown mega-church
lawrocket 3 #52 March 30, 2011 So, then, why is using a gun to kill someone worse than using a knife? Or to rob someone? "He mugged me." "Did he use a gun?" "No." "Oh. So it wasn't that bad." "What? He menaced me with a knife?" "Sorry. Guns are bad. They get the punishment." "Well, officer, he stabbed me." "Are you a Muslim? Jewish?" "No. I'm Christian." "Are you an actual Christian or do you call yourself Christian to hide your homosexuality?" "WHAT?!?!" "I'm looking for a hate crime. Something we can use. Throw me a bone here!" "I've told you everything." "We'll, we ran a check on you. You have a CCW?" "Yes. I have a little .22. That guy would have killed me if I hadn't threatened to shoot him." "Well, then, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will..." "Wait a second? Why are you reading me my rights?" "You have a gun and you threatened to use it. You are being arrested for making terroristic threats with a handgun enhancement - a felony." My wife is hotter than your wife.
