earthquake/Tsunami 1945

Recommended Posts

How do you think history would have been altered if the earthquake and Tsunami of last week had taken place in the same area of Japan in the summer of 1945?

Obviously there would not have been the nuclear reactor problems, but many other problems would have rendered Japan fairly impotent through the 9.0 earthquake and tsunami. Would the USA still have dropped two atomic bombs on Japan if they knew such a disaster had already struck them?

One Governor stated that the problems of the past week were Divine retribution.....but he later apologized. Do you think he was correct ?

Considering what the Japanese did in " The Rape of Nanking, China, and other brutality against American and Canadian soldiers " might give reason to think that, but the Japanese people are certainly very kind and warm people in 2011.

Just wondering !!!!

I always shy away from the adjective phrase "divine retribution" as it starts to sound like Karma.

However, the Bible is quite clear that incidents such as the earthquakes and tsunamis of recent past, along with the strife in North Africa and Southwest Asia, are prophetic signs of the end times. How long until the return of Christ is anybody's guess but, it certainly seems as though we are speeding in that direction.

There are examples of cataclysmic events throughout post-Christian history, and the second coming hasn't happened yet.

I'm not sure that trying to discern that is a great way of detecting. The best example of Antichrist I've seen so far would be Hitler (he did have millions of followers in and out of his country, and he was a pretty bad dude), and he's quite dead.

I prefer to live my life as best I can, and not wonder too much about whether others are getting punished sufficiently.

I agree. That is about the best we can do.

There is no such thing as "divine retribution". Tying things that have real, rational, scientific reasons for happening to your god myth impedes human advancement. No one benefits from such ignorance.

Every single prediction of the "end times"...and there have been a LOT of them...so far has been wrong. Your own back pedalling from the predictions you made about cataclysmic events happening to America are a good example of this:
Quote

Some time ago, I interpreted some biblical prophecies that spoke clearly of the end of the USA, ( NOT the end of the world as some thought), and I mentioned it would take place before the end of Bush's 2nd term.

Well, a continuance of research causes me to believe it will not be before the end of Bush's 2nd term, but shortly after his successor is elected to the President's
office, ......sometime before September of 2009.

This will be the 62nd WEEK ( of years) of Daniel's prophecy, and either shortly before or shortly after New York City and Washington are wiped off the map, a very large asteroid will hit in mid Atlantic, causing enormous problems to the east coast of North America and the west coast of Europe.

I just thought I would bring everyone interested up to date.

Nevertheless, you won't have to wait too long....it IS going to take place.....just a few extra months to enjoy yourselves while you can.....maybe a few extra jumps !

When will we see this kind of thing for what it is? It's either pure, mythological bullshit, or serious mental illness...

Please find my post in the other thread concerning evangelical atheists. Seriously man-if touting a lack of a religious belief system is the only thing you have to feel good about-go pet a stray dog or something.

You're annoyed. I get it. I don't care.

I'm just wondering who you're trying to convince? Or are you just bludgeoning folks to see if you can beat them into submission?

Arguing against folks who are completely polarized in the opposite direction is kind of fruitless. Pick off the ones in the middle if you can.

And yeah, that catching more flies with honey than with vinegar thing works too.

Steve, what Wendy is trying to say is ... you aren't going to change the crazies so leave the crazies alone (or else you might go crazy). :P

I have no hope of enlightening those like Bill Cole, RonD or Coreese. I do think that this type of debate can sway some in the middle. It is admittedly annoying to a lot of people, and there are undoubtedly better ways of swaying the opinions of those on the fence.
The intent is to get people to think for themselves. If someone says something ridiculous, expect me to ridicule it...it might wake a few people up. At the very least, I get to express my frustration with what I see as something that is harmful to us as humans.
As far as the flies/honey thing...There are plenty of people on here that sugar coat what they think. I'll leave that to them.

Did you read my question to you in the other thread? Are you going to respond to it?

No. It's irrelevant to the subject.

So, it's not that you don't believe in a god, it's that you believe that you are he.
That clears it up.
Basically what I'm saying if that it all boils down to opinion at some level. Ridiculing someone merely because they disagree with you doesn't demonstrate the strength of your position, just the weakness of your character.
You are only as strong as the prey you devour

That is exactly what I expected. My read is accurate but of no consequence.

If you are interested, you can read about it the DSM-IV, Cluster B Personality Disorders. I leave the identification of the appropriate number to your investigation. No worries, it is an Axis II Diagnosis, not Axis I (Mental Illness).

If you look carefully, you can find me in there too.;)

Hey, since you're in the know about such things(and we're not talking about the subject at hand anyway), do you know why there is a special exclusion for religious beliefs when diagnosing Delusional Disorder? I mean if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck....ya know?

Quote

The DSM-IV, and psychologists, generally agree that personal beliefs should be evaluated with great respect to complexity of cultural and religious differences since some cultures have widely accepted beliefs that may be considered delusional in other cultures.[3] Specifically, to be a "delusion," a belief must be sustained despite what almost everyone else believes, and not be one ordinarily accepted by other members of the person's culture or subculture (e.g., it is not an article of religious faith).[4]

Is attacking the messenger an effective tactic when refuting claims of your more delusional patients?

I forgot the axiom "Billvon is not a duck" that I read on here a long time ago.
No personal offence intended, Bill. I'll tone it down.

Right, earthquakes. A normal feature of the earth's surface since the beginning of geological time. And war in Africa, Asia and/or the Holy Land. A normal feature of human civilisation for the duration of recorded history. Yeah, we've really been speeding along to Jesus since those signs started:S

In response to the first post, we get earthquakes and hurricanes all the time, always have.

People can come along and slap a "divine retribution" or a "karma" on it after the fact, but it makes no difference to the earthquake/tsunami/hurricane.

After Katrina hit New Orleans, there were some on the Left who said it was "karma" punishing us for invading Iraq, and some on the Right who said it was God punishing us for gay pride parades.

Natural disasters have always happened and always will, and both good and bad people die in them. The natural disaster doesn't have the capacity to care.

In several places the Bible clearly deals with the fact that this world isn't always just. If you are a righteous person, you do not decrease your chance of getting hit by lightning or dying in a natural disaster.
