SpeedRacer 1 #1 March 15, 2011 Right now we are dominated by two political parties who seem to be more interested in fighting each other than doing what's best for the country. http://www.modernwhig.info/ Just started looking into this group. quade 4 #2 March 15, 2011 I'm not fond of modern groups simply taking historical names and using them as their own. It shows me an up front lack of creativity. Their tag line "A party for the rest of us" is essentially a rip off of the old Apple line and also shows a distinct lack of creativity. I'm fascinated by a couple of points on their web page "Whig Solutions" and am curious if they really understand what they're saying when they say, "This is why we propose that federal tax dollars be provided to each state in a lump sum every fiscal year based on population." That's going to be a pure Red State vs Blue State fight and while I would applaud their efforts, holy cow that doesn't stand a chance in hell of happening. Bottom line, I'm not sure how well they've thought their entire platform through.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Gotta love political good idea fairies Yeah, it's a big reason why "The Tea Party" doesn't really work. They don't seem to have any clue that they're hopelessly outnumbered if they actually got elected so a vast majority of the things they want to rail against and fight to change are doomed to failure from the get go. A centrist party makes a lot of sense to me as AN election strategy. Lop off the extremist 30% on either end of the Republicans AND Democrats and a centrist part could easily win a significant portion of the available seats in AN election. However, they'd still be wildly outnumbered by incumbents once they actually got to Capitol Hill so ultimately they have to align themselves with one side or the other if they want to do anything for their constituents back home. In doing so, they get branded as a tool of that party so they're pretty much back to square one. What they would really need to do is have a big enough block of them stick together and act as the swing which would give a small group incredible power, but as we've seen, it's a bit of a prisoner's dilemma and they always seem to side with another party for temporary gains and therefore screw their own cause.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
