DanG 1 #26 March 10, 2011 QuoteThis propaganda is how they get away with it. Smokers do not put an undue burden on scociety. A lot of people run up huge medical bills before they die, not just smokers, and many smokers die of something else before they ever cost a cent. It's a wash. Now add in the fact that most smokers die sooner than non smokers and think of the money saved from that in SSI payments, etc. If the govt. was smart, it would give them away free. Any evidence of any of that? - Dan G

DanG 1 #30 March 10, 2011 You made sweeping claims about smokers' financial impact on society, or lack thereof. I don't necessarily disagree, I just wanted to know if they were true or not. Do your personal observations include national/international economic impact studies? - Dan G

fasted3 0 #35 March 10, 2011 I've seen studies about a lot of things. It seems that those with an agenda can always find (fund?) a study to support them. In fact, the tobacco industry did do a study that came to the same conclusions I stated, but when they realized the implications of touting the benefits of their customers dying off, they didn't release it. Anyway, from what I've seen, it doesen't cost any more to die from lung cancer than many other diseases. But what do I know?
