Zep 0 #1 March 8, 2011 As of yesterday I am legally allowed to have and own a pistol or revolver, my choice is the Beretta 92FS. I studied for the exam which consisted of 40 multiple answer questions of which 36 must be answerd correctly. A live shooting test at the range with all safety requirements being met. Now the small arm must be kept for the next two years at the gun club then after the two year period I can legally keep the small arm at home albeit locked in a gun safe. Being an ex pat this is just one more way I can stick it to the British Government. Gone fishing

JohnRich 4 #3 March 8, 2011 Is this in Spain? I ask, because I don't think the Beretta 92F handgun is legal in England, since it accepts multi-shot detachable magazines. What is the point of making you store at it a gun club for the first two years? If you were vetted and passed all the tests, they ought to let you keep it at home right away. That's goofy. I would think it's along the lines of a waiting period here in the US. Andy9o8 2 #5 March 8, 2011 QuoteWhat is the point of making you store at it a gun club for the first two years? To make sure you're not an anarchist. It's Spain, where they had a civil war within the memories of some people still alive, and which had a fascist society for decades thereafter. Old habits, once engrained, die hard. If there's ever a serious insurrection in Spain, even if just a very localized one, how accessible to anyone but police or military do you think the gun clubs will be? I imagine they couch it in terms of limiting access to those with short-term criminal intent. But everything has an undercurrent.

John NO modern handgun is allowed to be owned by a citizen in England. I think the two year wait is to apease the sector of people who want handguns kept at all times at a gun club, I agree it is goofy but this is gunophobic Europe Gone fishing

No, the EU cannot intervene in a sovereign countries' own gun laws but some misguided British Labour MEP is trying to throw a spanner in the works and have Brussels control gun laws. Switzerland is not a member of the EU, but they did recently have a vote to stop service weapons being kept at home. The gunophobes lost. Trafficdiver 8 #17 March 9, 2011 Good for you man. I recently got my Permit in Massachusetts. It took me probably 4 months from the start of the process to actually get it. Each town handles the process individually and the Police Chief gets final vote on whether someone can get it or not (unless you can afford a lawyer and want to fight the chief.) I'm related to the chief in my town and it still was PITA to get and it's restricted to hunting and target, so if I carry it concealed I go to jail. Great. I ended up getting a Sig P220. It's awesome.

I've had experience with 1911's and Browning HP's the Baretta is really a trip down memory lane as my father owned a M951 when I was a kid.
