Granted the article that I have linked to is the Daily Mirror but a couple of quotes worth pulling out of the article... Quote An MI6 spy seized in Libya in the botched SAS mission was carrying a letter signed by bungling David Cameron Quote The farmhand who helped capture the SAS team told yesterday how he got the better of the world’s most feared fighting elite ouch that has got to hurt a few egos. I have a lot of respect for the SAS and I am sure they thought they were on friendly ground but it still sounds like a real cock-up.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. In fairness I very much doubt that they were doing what has been stated. Why would they do an insertion via helicopter insertion armed to the teeth if their mission was to just make contact with local anti Khadafi types? After all HMS Cumberland just rocked up in Bengarzi harbour and tied up, if they wanted to make contact with local insurgents they could have simply caught a cab to them from the ship. I think William is taking the flak for something that can't be disclosed. Also can you imagine the media if it had got out that the team had killed the local population in a firefight. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. popsjumper 2 #11 March 8, 2011 Quote Someone should have their balls on the block for leaking this story. If the media hadn't have become involved then no one would have been the wiser. So...did you read this part? "Throughout this flawed mission and the fallout from it, it has been clear the SAS men were not backed up – even when they were rescuing civilians in the desert.” Former Lib Dem leader and foreign affairs expert Sir Menzies Campbell said: “Isn’t it clear that this mission was ill-conceived, poorly planned and badly executed?" Yep, nobody would have been the wiser...even the next SAS team that goes in. Now THEY'LL have no back-up on another ill-conceived, poorly planned mission and get THEIR balls in a block. So, sure...keep it secret and allow the goobermint bozos continue on business as usual. I mean, after all, they're only SAS guys...expendable, right? So, sure...keep it secret so that one cannot make a decent judgment call on voting at the next election and get the bozos out of there. So, sure...keep it secret so there's no accountability. Everybody gets to go to the party....except the poor, suckered SAS guys. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Its good the SAS can't secretly move around foreign countries during chaos without public knowledge. I would expect the same level of reporting if my country was in the midst of a major civil upheaval and other countries had sent their own special forces in for whatever reason. If it was purely to evac ex-pats then all the better - there will be no political fallout. If not - too bad - devise a better plan to meddle in other people's affairs if you don't want it public knowledge.
