Which would support an increase in illegal guns.

If you change the definition of murder to include slapping somebody in the face, you would instantly increase the number of murderers.

Drawing conclusions from that is as useless as the tits on a nun.

Nonsense... It shows gun laws do not work.

What is the firearms homicide rate/100,000 in Germany, and what is it in the USA?

Toronto is a safe city but we continue to face unacceptable incidents of gun violence. There is something we can do as Torontonians and as Canadians. We must join together to call on the Parliament of Canada to ban the private ownership of handguns. Mayor David Miller asks that you add your name to the City of Toronto's petition for a Canada-wide handgun ban.

David Miller is a fucking idiot.

Quote

The Liberals have promised to outlaw handguns across the country, with Paul Martin branding the weapons as nothing but instruments of threat, intimidation and death.

Paul Martin is another gem. The man is an arrogant mega millionaire. Paul Martin thinks so highly of Canada that he cut funding to the provinces (meaning the provinces had no choice they had to cut back on things like healthcare) and he raided the Employment Insurance Fund which is supposed to be held separately from the government's general revenues thus giving the illusion that he was not only balancing the federal budget but now was running massive surpluses. Go figure, the state of Canada's healthcare is suffering due to lack of funding and Paul Martin is arrogantly running around boosting that he was some fiscal genius.

Do not for a second believe anything that comes out of Paul Martin's mouth. The man thinks so highly of this country that while still an active politician holding power in government, he moved his Steamship Lines business offshore to avoid paying Canadian wages and avoid paying Canadian taxes. Colonel Kadhafi is one of Paul Martin's friends if that tells you anything about his character.

Handguns have been highly regulated in Canada since the 1930s. They are in effect already banned from most people. Yet here we have two idiot politicians making promises to their Urban lemmings on how they plan on banning handguns from Canada. All a gun ban will do is ensure only criminals have the guns. Since when have criminals ever cared about the law. There is a reason why they are called criminals.

Nice diversion to a third world comparison, or one where the firearms owners overwhelmingly have prior military training.

Now, back to a RELEVANT comparison...

So you think the USA is socially more similar to Jamaica than to Germany. Interesting.

It was not I who started the Germany/USA comparison. The OP was about Germany and DaVinci brought up the USA. You brought in the extraneous and irrelevant extras. Even your precious Switzerland doesn't permit unlicensed people to carry weapons except under special certain circumstances such as travel to military training. Owners are legally responsible for third party access and usage of their weapons. Licensing IS REQUIRED.

That's true - you WERE, however, the one that brought up the murder rate comparison between the two countries.

Why bring up the comparison, then? That was YOUR choice.

Mentioning Switzerland is 'bringing it up as a paragon of virtue', now? That's some pretty serious projection, perfesser. Maybe you should talk to someone about that.

Why exactly would you want to ask this question?

Germany apparently has one illegal gun for every 4 people, well in excess of what is seen in America. Yet the murder rate is lower.

seems to blow away your arguments about how illegal gun sales (or stolen guns) are the problem here. Maybe it's about the number of criminals, not weapons?

for switzerland, that is not really true. yes, you can carry your gun to or from the range, or to or from military service. but it's got to be visibly unloaded and you're not supposed to have ANY ammunition on you.

Do you understand the meaning of the word every?

(plus that mayor has been replaced with a newer version, we went from communist to right wing with our mayors.)

Paul martin is two PMs ago. We now have a right wing PM.

And once again, the meaning of the word every eludes you...

Historically? How many innocent Jews were killed by Germany vs the US?

The answer to that question has the same relevance as your stupid question.

You seem to think that the weapon causes crime.... A juvenile opinion.

Germany has MORE illegal weapons per person that the US, but LESS gun crime. So your "theory" has been debunked with your own example.

Germany has MORE weapons per person that the US,

How do you figure that?

as per link in OP. germany has 6.4 million legal and 20 million illegal guns. Population 80 million

US in 2009 had an estimated 280 million guns in circulation (not sure of that includes illegal guns) and a population of 306 million.

How do you get more per person in Germany from that?

It's more a presumption due to lack of counter information.

If the same ratio of legal to illegal were true, this would be 700M illegal weapons. Clearly not so. If we use population ratio, it would be 75M. We'd know if there were that many about.

Guns seized at crime scenes are tracked as far as the data permits. We don't see that number of hits.

It would stand to reason, in any event. The Germans appear to be willfully ignoring unfair law. Most of these 'illegal' guns are not criminal in nature. These people keep one tucked away for a rainy day. In the US, only a few people have to do this, and most of them are finally getting redress (DC, Chicago, NYC).

What is the number of illegal guns in the US? (plus a source please, I have been having a hard time finding an estimate for this).

Quote

At any rate it still shows that making something illegal does nothing.

Great motherhood statement. But, what does it mean? Does it mean we should just do nothing?

All you have done so far is show that 1st world countries with stricter gun laws than the US (which includes Switzerland) have far lower homicide rates than the US, that strict gun laws and licensing do not prevent a large fraction of the population from owning guns (Switzerland) and that you have to resort to a 3rd world slum nation (Jamaica) to make the US look good by comparison.
