Try and stick with the topic. America is "supposed" to have lots of illegal guns, because we have "lax" gun laws. Germany is not, because they have very strict gun laws. So the fact that there are 20 million illegal guns in a place with strict gun laws, kind of says that strict gun laws don't work.

And then there's the statistical problem with your question about the relative differences in the size of the populations of the two countries. Since Germany has a population of 82 million, that's one illegal gun for every four citizens. For America to reach that rate, there would have to be 75 million illegal guns - and that is doubtful.

Then there is also the fact that there aren't many illegal guns in America, because the large majority of American territory doesn't require gun registration. Therefore, just about all of those guns that are owned, are by default legal. The only illegal guns are those owned by convicted felons, which is the way it should be.

Guns shouldn't be illegal just because their serial numbers aren't in some government computer.

There are millions of firearms in Canada that remain unregistered and thus are considered illegal. But as far as I am concerned the people who did NOT register their firearms are smart. They are not on the gun grabbers shopping list. The moment you register your firearm in Canada is the moment you allow the police to enter your home anytime they want without a search warrant. Stupid Liberals have made criminals out of law abiding people.

They're only "illegal" because of bureaucratic paperwork requirements. But despite all these "illegal" guns in Canada and Germany, they still have low murder rates. So what does that tell us? That registering guns is worthless as a crime-prevention method. If unregistered guns caused gun crime, with 20 million "illegal" guns floating around, then Germany should have a far worse gun crime problem than they do. What this says is that those people that own the unregistered guns, aren't criminally-minded, and aren't misusing those unregistered guns. They're just regular law-abiding folks, who didn't bother to fill out paperwork. And that doesn't make them violent gun criminals, nor should it turn them into paperwork felons.
