So far the US has performed almost flawlessly in dealing with these recent middle east uprisings by staying the F out of them. The best possible outcome is the ouster of the dictators by their own people. While I will admit the worst possible outcome is the wholesale slaughter of protesters, at least it's not any of our guys and gals.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

In other threads, the Great Satan (TM) has been blamed for supporting oppressive regimes. The US doesn't support Khadaffi Duck, yet The Peasants Are Revolting ("You can say that again") there too. I have responded that as bad as such regimes are, some things are worse, and not just for US interests in the region (honest!). The worst possible outcome is a hostile takeover by islamofascist thugs. Once they get started, the deaths so far will look like nothing in comparison. We are witnessing change in the Middle East, but unfortunately, it won't be for the better. The problem is centuries of islamic conditioning, allowing fascist or islamofascist thugs to claim that they are the Mahdi (how many times have we seen that? I can think of at least two offhand, and can probably come up with more if I research it a bit). Democracy fails in the Middle East because Arabs can't grasp it. They think it's supposed to be easy, like pointing guns at people to get them to do what you want, and they give up soon after they realize how hard it is. The End Times, they are a'comin'. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

The last time there was anything like democracy in the Middle East, the country succumbed to civil war (Lebanon), and aside from Iraq, which is a goofy-puppet kind of democracy, there are no others, nor are there likely to be any. Tyranny is all Arabs / muslims know, have ever known, and will ever know, be they autocrat/kleptocrat thugs or islamofascist/kleptocrat thugs. Please feel free to contradict me. History is not on the side of democracy, especially in the Middle East. The smart and strong oppress the weak and stupid. You don't get out much, do you? The unfortunate reality is they haven't have the opportunity to experience it because of dictators and "kings", but Arabs grasp the concept of democracy just fine. As for his comment about "The End Times, they are a'comin'." That's pure gibberish.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
