He did the right thing. Tell that " woman" to go learn to bake a good apple pie.

I'm the best cook and home-baker in my family of 3 women plus me.

.

I am best at sewing in my family, which had 3 women until my wife died. I like making pastry too, it's great for cleaning the hands after I've been working on the car.

Does it work as well after changing the wax seal on a comode?

OK, I'll confess. I also do the sewing to mend or hem everyone's clothes, including my wife's. But when I'm done, I beat my chest like a silverback.

I don't blame the kid (guy), because he's still young enough (read: unexposed to the rest of the world) to not realize that he's been indoctrinated into believing that The Flying Spaghetti Monster disapproves of his wrestling a girl. But I do feel sorry for him for his brainwashing.

Wrong, it's a matter of conscience.
Quote

he could not in good conscience wrestle with a girl

There are many things that are not wrong unless you personally feel they are wrong.

Scripture suggests that you don't violate your conscience. The conscience is a defense mechanism and searing it could ultimately render it useless causing you to be given over to a reprobate mind.

If this point of conscience were not religion-based, you'd have a point. But it is religion-based. Thus, +1 for me; -1 for you. Ha.

If you can show me in scripture where it says it's wrong to wrestle a girl, YOU'D have a point.

I personally would feel very uncomfortable grabbing a girls crotch infront of thousands of people. Wrestling has been a form of foreplay in my past and it would be very embarrassing to pop a boner in those spandex.

I was referring to the kid's own religious beliefs, from whatever source, almost certainly including, in strong part, his family.

This article,, for example quotes him and his dad thus:

Quote

In a statement he wrote, "As a matter of conscience and my faith I do not believe that it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner." His father explains, "Wrestling is a combat sport and they're out there and it gets violent at times, and my son doesn't believe that girls should be engaged in that way," said Jamie Northrup.

(emphasis added by me.)

A bit ambiguous, I concede, but the phrase "and my faith" is what I based my comment on.

Depends. Has to be low in sat fats and sodium.

Yes, and I was pointing out that his faith suggests that he not violate his conscience, not to avoid wrestling girls.

Far the the brainwashing you portray it as...but it's ok, everyone is entitled to express their bias.

Football is manadory to be co-ed?

Why can't they just have a womens wrestling?

This rings just like the girls wanting to be Boy Scouts.

I doubt there are enough girls interested in wrestling in Iowa to make a valid league. There may not be enough in California for that matter, though I'm sure enough statewide to have a girl's competition.

Given that the sport uses weight divisions and is as much about skill as brute force, I don't see a problem with co-ed competition. The girls signed up for it, knowing what it entails. So personally, I don't see the honor in refusing to compete with her. Treat her as an equal.

Thinking about this boy - he's in the 112 lb division. So he's probably already taking a lot of shit in life. Losing to her certainly wouldn't help - though being home schooled, he would avoid much of it.

Well ESPN does not agree with you
They had nothing but compliments for this kid and his integrity

He did the same thing once last year

I respect someone who can stand up to self righteous insulters like seen here already

Kid has got guts

But hey, at least you feel better huh:S

I was perhaps making a off the cuff comment and too harsh.:P

I think both families handled the situation well.

She deserves to be treated with respect that he would give any other opponent who work their way to the tournament. What if this was the championship match? His integrity might change.

An as a self righteous insulter I don't feel better.:S

I don't think the guy is a pussy. But I can see the catch-22 scenario for all the politically correct peeps who no doubt would slam this guy since that is all they know how to do.

If the girl wants to wrestle against male opponents, let her wrestle. If she is good enough to beat them, she is good enough to beat them. If she is not good enough, oh well. Despite what the PC peeps think, in sports ... for every winner there is one or more losers.

He was homeschooled. What you call brainwashing others might call parental involvement.

He lost his second match in the losers bracket in overtime so the best he can do is 7th place. He probably learned more by sticking to his principles (however misguided they might be considered) than winning the tournament.

As far as bringing in the FSM with all his noodly appendages, putting women on a pedestal and not rolling around on the floor with them is one of the least offensive religous beliefs I can think of. The kid will probably be alright.

I mentioned this earlier
This is the second time he has done this

As for the talent of the girls

They fought their way into the Iowa State Tourney

They gotta be good to get there

My point being, the kid also used the phrase "and my faith". You don't quote it, but he said it. So yes, everyone's entitled to their bias; but in this case, it seems as though his bias is at least somewhat directly influenced by his "faith", which in this context (his dad's a minister) almost certainly means his religious beliefs. Why are you so loath to acknowledge that? It is what it is.

of course he lost his bid, or at the very least, decreased his chances tremendously, because of the situation that someone else put him in. That is fair, right?

No, he decreased his chances because of his response to that situation.

In the past top level pro-athletes have lost out on world championships and olympic games because events and matches were scheduled on sunday and they wouldn't compete. Is that fair?

Yes.

hey it's not like i called him a goat-fucker or anything like that.
not that there's anything wrong with that.

I did that here once. Was cause for an increase in my work productivity for a couple of weeks.

Just for the record, I was referring to the actual act of bestial coitus, not to the pejorative metaphor.

Big red flag. My scientific studies reflect that 71.3% of all kids who are homeschooled are a little bit odd.

You are correct. They can actually do math, read, write and carry on an intelligent conversation.

Yeah, but they don't look you in the eye; they wear plaids with stripes; some even collect stamps.
