Last week, the U.S. Government triumphantly shut down several domain names linked to counterfeit goods and child pornography. But it also shut down about 84,000 other sites that, it turns out, were completely legal.

As part of its ongoing 'Operation Save Our Children' campaign, the Department of Justice and Homeland Security's ICE office recently obtained a seizure warrant from a District Court judge, before systematically plastering warning banners all over targeted websites. "Advertisement, distribution, transportation, receipt, and possession of child pornography constitute federal crimes that carry penalties for first time offenders of up to 30 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, forfeiture and restitution," the banners read.

This probably caused irreparable damage to thousands of individuals and small business. Perhaps ICE should be more careful that the people hired to manage the technical aspects of these DNS seizures aren't grossly negligent jackasses.

They should probably also consider leaving references to child pornography off of the banners until they have some actual evidence that each individual site being shuttered is actually warranted.

I'm of the opinion that anyone who engages in crime that is directed specifically at children deserves the harshest possible punishment, and I also think that this type of "accidental" libel deserves harsher than normal consequences for those responsible.

Goes to show you just how capable THIS administration is when it comes to results.

Your ODS is out of control again....

HOW many of those right wing morons who "graduated" from Pat Robertsons Regent University Law School did the Justice Department under Ashcroft/Alberto Gonzalez and the other CONSERVATARDS of the last administration who follow those fringe right family values beliefs that they and only they are the arbiters of what is good and holy in our society again???
I bet most of them are still there doing all that "good work"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/06/AR2007040601799.html

Goodling is one of 150 graduates of Regent University who have served in this administration, as Regent's Web site proudly proclaims. Pretty impressive for a 29-year-old school. The university says that "approximately one out of every six Regent alumni is employed in some form of government work." And that's precisely what its founder desired. The school's motto is "Christian Leadership to Change the World." Former attorney general John Ashcroft teaches at Regent, and graduates have obtained senior positions in the Bush administration. The express goal is not only to tear down the wall between church and state in America but also to enmesh the two.

Jeffrey A. Brauch, the law school's dean, urges that students reflect upon "the critical role the Christian faith should play in our legal system." Jason Eige (Class of '99), senior assistant to Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell, puts it pithily in the alumni newsletter: "Your Résumé Is God's Instrument."

This legal worldview meshed perfectly with that of Ashcroft -- a devout Pentecostal who forbade use of the word "pride," as well as the phrase "no higher calling than public service," on documents bearing his signature. No surprise that, as he began transforming the Justice Department, the Goodlings looked good to him.

Stuck on religion, huh?

Yeah - Umm - who's the President and ultimately in charge of the management?

Did you read the WHOLE article.. nope.. didnt think so..

ASHCROFT and GONZALES removed quite a few of those who did not believe the way you do.. they gutted the Justice Department.

This is the result.

From the link

A 1995 graduate of Messiah College, an evangelical Christian school, and a 1999 graduate of Pat Robertson's Regent University Law School, Goodling is an improbable character for a political scandal. Her chief claim to professional fame appears to have been loyalty to the president and to the process of reshaping the Justice Department in his image (and, thus, His image). A former career official there told The Washington Post that Goodling "forced many very talented career people out of main Justice so she could replace them with junior people that were either loyal to the administration or would score her some points." And as she rose at Justice, a former classmate said, Goodling "developed a very positive reputation for people coming from Christian schools into Washington looking for employment in government, always ready to offer encouragement and be a sounding board."

Perhaps they do not just fire people because they do not go to the same church.. as you and your ILK did:S:S

Perhaps.

Why don't you do some research and let us know what is determined by the facts that you uncover.

Child Porn is such a hot button that one can get anything past a judge in the name of it regardless of the validity.

What judge would say no to a Child Porn investigation?

I'm just surprised that a judge was even consulted beforehand. Nobody is going to consult a judge to vandalize anything or anybody even remotely associated with Wikileaks.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
