airdvr 210 #1 January 30, 2011 Ohio Statehouse Democrats demand Gov. John Kasich embrace diversity, add minorities to his all-white cabinet http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/01/ohio_statehouse_democrats_dema.html QuoteCOLUMBUS, Ohio — A group of Statehouse Democrats -- black, white, Indian-American and Hispanic -- accused Gov. John Kasich Thursday of racial discrimination and demanded that he name minorities to his cabinet. Kasich's early record of hiring only white people for his cabinet -- and his defiant defense of it, likening diversity to quotas -- has ignited a firestorm of racial tension for the Republican governor. I voted no. But I think it's a microcosm of a larger problem in the US.Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
doughboyshred 0 #2 January 30, 2011 he should hire them, but he shouldn't be forced to. At least this way the people can see his true colors and he will not be re elected.
Kennedy 0 #3 January 30, 2011 Should the people hired be the best at the job, or the best looking to people who disagree with everything the new gov is doing anyway? Does it really scream racism when he has offered the job to people of other races? Who is more racist, the person hiring folks without thinking about skin color, or the people screaming that those hired are not the right color? http://www.fallsnewspress.com/news/article/4971529 Just read the comments in that article and think about what the screeching harpy of a caucus leader is saying.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Sounds like you're saying he's a racist, do you base it on anything besides this issue of his cabinet? What about if a black governor/mayor/whatever picked all black cabinet members. Would that be enough evidence of racism?People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
billvon 3,121 #5 January 30, 2011 If it can be demonstrated that he was passing over more qualified black candidates for white candidates, then the power to hire/fire people should be removed from him, and the task performed by someone with a better track record. If not, then no.
Kennedy 0 #6 January 30, 2011 I agree, with the addendum that since he supposedly offered some of the jobs to "minorities" before falling back on whites, it's really doubtful.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
airdvr 210 #7 January 30, 2011 Quote"When you are at the table making decisions about the people of Ohio. . . it's important to get as many views from the people from all kinds of backgrounds," Budish said. "It should be a concern to everybody in Ohio when we do not have diversity around the table making decisions." I thought this was laughable. Let's take a look at W's cabinet members. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. (2005 to 2009). Retired Gen. Colin Powell. (2001 to 2005). Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. (2005 to 2007) Secretary of the Interior. Gale A. Norton. (2001 to 2006). Ann M. Veneman. (2001 to 2005). Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez. (2005 to 2009) Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. (2001 to 2009). Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson. (2003 to 2008). Melquiades Rafael Martinez. (2001). Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta. (2001 to 2006) Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings. (2005 to 2009). Roderick Paige. (2001 to 2005). Arguably the most diverse set of cabinet appointees ever. Worked out well for him. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Those are called elections. I don't think there's any other mechanism for compelling the head executive in a state to do anything more. The Cabinet's function is to support the executive in running the administration. It's not an equal opportunity job source, nor should it be.
davjohns 1 #9 January 31, 2011 I think everyone should hire the most qualified. If he did not hire the most qualified, someone needs to make the case. I'm not big on quotas or diversity or any of that stuff. If you hire the best, it should all pan out just fine. I especially want the best when it comes to police, military, fire and government. These are areas where hiring someone due to their color could get someone killed or at least squander public resources. I expect to get flamed on this. But I live in a world where PC means people die unnecessarily. It's immoral. I want the best leading my children into combat. I don't care how they have sex, how they pray, what planet they're from or if they're circumcised. If this guy did not hire the best, jump him. If he hired the best and the law of averages kept it from looking the right color - it's suspect - check it out. But it is not wrong by definition. It just bears closer scrutiny.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
Gravitymaster 0 #10 January 31, 2011 Interesting how groups like this that call Black Republicans "Uncle Toms" are now demanding that a Reublican Governor hire them. Most politicians tend to hire the people who have been working to help them get elected. Maybe no "Uncle Toms" were involved because they didn't want to be subjected to the type of treatment Black Republicans like Michael Steele and others were subjected to. Politicians should be able to hire whomever they want as should any business owner.
