kelpdiver 2 #26 January 27, 2011 Quote And Medicare is seen by whom as the biggest demon in our future debts? 'cause I for one do not see it that way. Nor do tens of thousands, if not millions of people in this country. I see the demolition of manufacturing in this country as one of the demons. I see two wars as two of the demons. I see the prison system combined with the 'war on drugs' as one of the demons...... There is no question that the biggest future contributor, by far, to our annual deficit and therefore national debt, is Medicare. Social Security is scary enough, but it is completely dwarfed by MC. And it doesn't matter how many people like the service - they just aren't aware of the reality of what it will take to pay for it.

Any party (Tea or otherwise) that claims it can make significant spending cuts without cutting Medicare, SS and/or defense is deceiving the electorate.... DrewEckhardt 0 #30 January 28, 2011 Quote Hopefully after this fails, they will realize that the "Medicare for all" plan would probably be the best and the cheapest option for everyone. It's not going to fail. The private insurance industry is going to thrive even more with the government requiring all Americans to buy their product and offering government subsidies for those that may have a hard time managing with just their own pay checks. Medicare for everyone would deprive the health insurance industry of its profits and reduce campaign contributions.
tkhayes 348 #31 January 28, 2011 It will not fail for the corporations, but it will fail for the American people (most likely). There is still hope that the people come to their senses and choose a govt willing to mandate single payer Medicare, whatever you want to call it for everyone. We did it in 1965, and we created Society Security for all. We can do this too. It will just take time

I cant wait to see their reaction when the insurance company DEATH PANELS get their paperwork after an accident or some life threatening illness. tkhayes 348 #33 January 28, 2011 there is no such thing as a 'death panel'. There never was, and there never will be. It is a fictional entity made up by the right wing to scare people.

I think the insurance companies already have them ... and once they put you on a list with a "pre-existing condition" it is tantamount to the same thing. I think her politics vary according to the subject and I've seen her fall on topics to the right and left depending on the subject. The only thing consistent is she's passionate about them all past a certain point and will play devil's advocate a lot just to poke buttons.
