Californians Stock Up on Ammo

Recommended Posts

Quote

not sure what your talking about but i've always bought my ammo from my local(family owned) convenience store or the (family owned) gun/sporting goods store

Do they carry .308 with 175 gr. Sierra HPBTM bullets?

What would you do if your local stores didn't have 'em, and state law didn't allow you to buy them through the mail?

these laws are designed to support local business

No, even the news story said nothing about that - are you just making stuff up out of thin air now?

They claim it's about making it easier for police to investigate crimes. The problem is, all the criminals have to do is steal someone else's ammo, and they're home free.

Why should the government tell law-abiding citizens from where they should purchase their ammo? America is supposed to be a free market, not a government-approved limited market.

thats the point of shopping around and trying out different stores where you can meet new people and possibly build relationships

thats why safes were invented i make sure to lock up all my guns and my ammunition

also many factors are considered when investigating a crime

for example the murder weapon itself; ballistics can tell the difference between gun A and gun B
Look out for the freefly team, Smelly Peppers. Once we get a couple years more experience we will be a force to be reckoned with in the near future! BLUES!

You obviously watch WAY too much CSI and Law and Order on TV, and much to our surprise, you're wrong again.

Ballistics is many times unable to show evidence for a single gun. Investigators may be able to only narrow down the weapon to a type, for instance, saying that it was a Glock and not a Taurus. However, even then, that is not always the case. Even very basic Criminal Justice courses on investigation covers this point.

I know plenty about guns, my point is that these laws are designed to support local business. Last time i checked, people aren't forced to live in california(unless they are incarcerated)

http://www.superpages.com/yellowpages/C-Guns+%26+Ammunition+Dealers/S-CA/

that is a list of ammostores in CA

what is wrong with supporting them?

Did you click on the San Francisco listing? Quite the selection there...

The purpose of this legislation is to make gun ownership as expensive, inconvenient as possible. Just a tiny bit of racism in this.

a whopping 4

and if it's to support local businesses then avoid the big chain store. And one is a pawn shop. I've never seen ammo in a pawn shop.

so that's 2. hey.. that's plenty right??

I don't normally do this, but for some reason I feel compelled to state for the record that my last post was not actually serious.

That doesn't change my reply.

But I did get the sacasm . . .

[Reply] my point is that these laws are designed to support local business.

Then it runs afoul of the Commerce Clause (what we call the Dormant Commerce Clause) by regulating interstate commerce. California knows better than that.

The simplest explanation is: (1) increase sales tax revenue; and (2) create another impediment to purchasing guns.

I wonder if this system is linked to CLETS? If not, then it's not getting at anything substantive, now is it?

My wife is hotter than your wife.

Well it is official AB952 was over turned by a federal judge as unconstitutional. Mail order ammo in california will continue and no fingerprints or reporting of ammo sales.:)

That would be AB962. And I'm glad to hear it! The gun-o-phobes go down in smoking defeat once again with their silly schemes.

Finally, a small news story on this court decision - it seems that the mainstream media doesn't like to cover gun-control defeats:

News:
Fresno Judge Shoots Down State Ammunition Law

Under the new law, set to take effect February 1st 2011, when someone goes to buy ammunition in the state of California, they must be fingerprinted, provide a copy of their photo ID, the stores have to keep extensive logs of each sale, mail–order sales are no longer legal and only 50 rounds of ammunition can be sold per person each month...

...Fresno County Judge Jeffrey Hamilton ruled the law "unconstitutional."

funny when you compare it to how much news print we see across the country when someone proposes a 50 cent tax per bullet.

Thus far, more of the news reports on the court decision came from gun advocates, which always clouds the picture when they put a rosy face on the decision. Doesn't help you to determine how well it will fare at the next level.
