JohnRich 4 #1 January 17, 2011 News:Gun stores prepare for rush on ammunition with new gun law around the corner While the holiday shopping season is long gone, some Humboldt County residents are stocking up on ammunition for fear of a new California law that goes into effect next month placing restrictions on the purchase of bullets. Under the law, those buying handgun ammunition will be required to provide vendors with their thumbprint, address and photo identification, with the idea that it will make the task of investigating and preventing gun-related crime easier for law enforcement. Already home to some of the strictest gun laws in the country, California will add to the list beginning on Feb. 1, when people will no longer be able to purchase ammunition via the Internet or by mail order...Source: http://www.contracostatimes.com/california/ci_17118022?nclick_check=1 Californians: If you don't want to become murder suspects every time someone is killed with a caliber of ammunition which you have purchased, then you better stock up now with all you're going to ever need... I can see it now: Cop: "Hello, Mr. Rich. We had someone murdered last night with a 9mm handgun, and we see in the ammo purchase records where you bought a box of 9mm ammo two days prior to that murder." Rich: "Yeah, so what?" Cop: "So, where were you on the night of January 16th, at 11:15 pm?" Oh, and if you need to purchase those special 1,000-yard cartridges online because regular gun stores don't sell specialty ammo, well tough luck - you're just going to have to go without. Which just goes to show you - there really is a sucker born every minute. Coming up next - Obama is going to steal your California zinfandel! (Brought to you by the California Association of Winegrape Growers.) It would be fear mongering if the law wasn't in the works of a very liberal California legislature. Since it is, then I guess it's just reality. When i used to shoot professionally, I used to load my own. normiss 906 #6 January 17, 2011 We're going to have to pay cash for all morally questionable items. Books, weapons, ammo, movies, internet access, liquor, cigarettes, medicinal weed, prescriptions, video games, ad infinitum. I just bought my daughter a used car. Federal background check was ran. DrewEckhardt 0 #9 January 17, 2011 Quotehow is that a restriction? its just a preventative measure It's going to dramatically increase the price of handgun ammunition by requiring us to buy our ammunition from retail outlets with high overhead instead of having it shipped from warehouses located in inexpensive states. kelpdiver 2 #19 January 17, 2011 I'll reask the question: 'do you know how many "local businesses" exist around San Francisco?' Because if you're buying ammo from the local liquor store, you really have no clue what the laws over the past 20 years have done to the retail sector of CA with regards to guns and ammo.
