The guy that ended up on the ground only seconds later. I hope.:|

My mom said it was true and that she saw it happen. She said it was sad.

liberals are (collectively) lame cowards

My dad's a lifetime Democrat and thinks Republican policy is full of shit. He's also spent his whole life in corporate business management. He's also a USMC veteran and put himself through school on the GI Bill. I'll set up a meeting between the two of you. You can try calling him a lame coward to his face.

You're not the solution to the problem, Mark. You're the problem.

Isn't he the one you had to explain the 'real, REAL' reason he wasn't comfortable with Obama to? Maybe he's not the 'liberal' you describe him as.

It was in one of the 10 books I read for a Vietnam class in college..I can get you the whole reading list if you want, but this is the particular book that came from..learned a lot in that class

Vietnam and other American Fantasies by H. Bruce Franklin

Yes I know reading and colleges are only for communists, so I guess I am one.

You're using a red herring, but I'll answer anyway. I am more qualified to describe my dad than an online stranger is. My description of his politics is accurate. His discomfort with Obama was partly a bit of very old-fashioned prejudice, combined with Obama's youth and inexperience, viewed against the experience and military record of McCain. But Dad's opinion of McCain's professional judgment fatally plummeted when McCain picked Palin for VP. Dad was horrified at the prospect of Palin a heartbeat away from a president in his 70's who had had cancer. Dad also thought Bush II was a fucking idiot, and that Clinton was a good President.

So - anyone want to call my dad a lame coward to his face for being a moderate and occasional liberal Democrat? I'll set up the meeting.

The country is going to hell in a hand basket, I tell you.

...and it is accelerating to light speed.

I just can't believe anyone pays any attention to Palin,?!:| Still, there's no excuse for threatening and killing someone. Someone just like (the target subject) is going to come after them and after them and...

Speaking of red herrings - way to take a generic statement and make it a specific argument against your dad as a way to stifle the conversation.

Well done, counselor.

*rolls eyes*

Whatever you say, bub. Did the good professor list all the people he interviewed so that we know that NOBODY ever spat at/on a soldier?

Comment from one of those non-violent, misunderstood, unfairly attacked right wingers on Sarah Palin's website:

==================
It’s ok. Christina Taylor Green was probably going to end up a left wing bleeding heart liberal anyway. Hey, as ‘they’ say, what would you do if you had the chance to kill Hitler as a kid? Exactly.”
==================

Green was the nine year old girl killed by Loughner.

Regardless of political affiliations, or beliefs, this comment disgusts me.

Sad, truly sad, that someone can find joy in the death of a child.

Sorry to hijack but...I appreciate your views on problems in education, but this is such a simple, less-than-one-dimensional argument on the issues facing many of America's schools today.

So much for keeping the rhetoric down, Mr. Moderator - nice example you make there. And of course, nobody ever trolls threads here saying stuff like 'the dead are just collateral damage for you' or 'he needed killing'.

I won't bother asking you for any sort of proof that it was someone on the right that posted that - you've already proven your ethical bankruptcy in that regard.

I see the first search term for the statement was Democratic Underground - I guess now we know where you get your news from.

>However, never before in the history of US politics have things gotten so ugly.

McCarthyism was worse. We're not actually imprisoning people we disagree with. Hmmm Where did Bush and Friends get all those MOOZLIMS sent ???

>It isn't conservatism that caused one-parent households

And it isn't liberalism that drives gay kids to kill themselves (or worse, straight kids to kill gay kids.)

>and the failure-factories that schools have become

It isn't liberalism that tries to constantly cut educational funding.

>From where I see it, all the liberal birds have come home to roost, yet somehow,
>conservatives are to blame.

The worst excesses of both parties have come home to roost. Both are to blame for the excesses we see today.

The best friend that the extremists can have are voters that can see only partisan issues, that forgive their own side for what they condemn the other side for. As long as we have them, we'll have Sarah Palins and Michael Moores and Rush Limbaughs - and they will be worshipped as heroes.

>However, I emphatically lay the blame for the deteriorating political situation in
> the US at the feet of liberalism, in all its wretched stink.

And as long as both sides have that attitude, it will continue to get worse.

I swear to god... that the conservitives on this site, LONG for the days where the Chicago Police Department can go on a rampage and beat liberals/hippies/progressives to a bloody pulp.

so you explained to your dad his racism, but didn't bother explaining to him his sexism.......

tactical application of PC thuggery is necessary to advance one's personal biases

Lame. Go re-read the rules for this site. Go look at a few threads on Dem Underground or Daily Kos and see how many comments get removed.

Nice try. He never admitted that race played a part in his thinking in the election, even when we needled him about it. But I know him, so that was my own conclusion. He thought Palin was a scaringly fucking idiot - based on the shit that came out of her own mouth, and her deer-in-the-headlights performance on interviews - and thus completely unqualified to be President-in-waiting. As a manager himself, he was disappointed in McCain's failure to examine her closely enough before choosing her. He though Hillary was the best qualified of the Dem candidates, and was hoping she'd get the nomination.

Let me paraphrase what you just wrote

"Dad didn't admit he was racist, but I knew better. Clearly he's racist since he didn't agree with my politics" that's a nice PC liberal attitude there

"Dad is clearly NOT sexist, because he had the same politics as me on this individual" that's a nice application as well

"Oh and he didn't like McCain and he liked Hillary over Obama, and I approve of that position too" nothing add, it stands on its own

of course, this is just SC discourse for the fun of it
and my dad is tougher than your dad :P

where do I find a nice dijon vinaigrette? it sounds great - hopefully not too overpowering, babies are a subtle flavor and you don't want to lose the natural flavor by overdoing the accoutreme'

(I just made that word up, but I think it's close to a real word that I don't know the meaning to - but it sounds cool when I read it outloud)
