This guys attempt to justify his own language just makes him look like an ass. The political rhetoric might encourage violence just in "fruitcakes", but there are fruitcakes out there; more damaging in a way is that such language makes it impossible to discuss actual policies and ideas. Once someone starts talking about "put him up against a wall and shoot him", or "second amendment solutions", how can you get back to discussing the relative pros and cons of policy? Maybe that's the real problem, where there are no substantial differences between political positions there really isn't much else to say except "I'm an angel, and my opponent is the devil incarnate". Anyway, for some of these trash-talking politicians a good (very old fashioned) public mouth washing with soap might be a worthwhile idea. CanuckInUSA 0 #7 January 12, 2011 It just goes to show how utterly ridiculous the media is when they have an agenda. The media was completely irresponsible in their rush to place blame before any facts or evidence was known in this latest AZ shooting. The media is all to happy to throw live bodies into a burning wreck if it gets them closer to realizing their agenda. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Niki1 2 #9 January 12, 2011 The shooting in AZ was terrible. The hateful (vitriolic, if that's the right word) speech comming from BOTH the left and right is awful. But to try and connect them directtly as cause and effect is asinine. In my opinion, it probably makes matters worse. How about if we take all this over the top hateful speech that we wouldn't have been allowed to use in a school debate and call it unacceptable. And let the purveyors of such speech know that we won't accept what they say if they say it thiis way. The nut jobs are an entirely seperate issue. These crazy assholes will start shooting at Rice Crispies after seeing a Coco Puffs comercial. EVERYONE needs to condem the nut cases. EVERYONE needs to recogize speech that is lacking of civility AND the ones who repeat it.Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Niki1 2 #15 January 12, 2011 Well, the term I used was "hateful speech", not hate speech. Hate speech seems to have conotations of "code words" and inciting people to riot, burn and kill. I hope it's not THAT bad yet. The things Sharon Angle said that Amazon pointed out were an example. But it would be better if it was pointed out by some one on her side of the political fence. There are other examples of the same sort from the other side but I can't bring any to mind right now. When there's a fight on the playing field, there are only 2 or 3 people going at it, to start with. When the other team members grab their own teammate to pull him away, things settle down and they get back to the game. When some one grabs a member of the other team, that's when the "bench clearing brawls" break out. If the moderate Muslims would be more vocal about the fundementalists hijacking their system of belief, that would go a long way toward abating the anti-Muslim retoric. The "silent majority" is the 60 or 70 percent in the middle who are not doing enough to let the loudmouths know what is unacceptable. Hateful speech is what you would NOT say to your moter if you had a disagreement. But I grew up in another time. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?
