mnealtx 0 #51 January 7, 2011 Quote>Good thing that the Veteran's Memorial isn't any sort of church, then isn't it? Well, neither is a mosque, or a statue of Allah, or a Star of David, or a Buddhist shrine. (If you're going to play word games at least you should be consistent within your own games, eh?) Indeed - so why did you mix religious symbols and places of worship? Quote>Good thing it's a Veteran's Memorial and not a Christian monument, then. The Easter Cross is a veteran's memorial? Cool. I assume you will also support the memorial to the Muslim WTC victims currently being considered for construction in downtown Manhattan, then. The Mt. Soledad site was dedicated as a Korean War veteran's memorial in 1952. Maybe you should join the rest of us here in the present. Quote>then again, I've seen the Star of David, Muslim Crescent and other >symbols in national cemeteries - I guess Fed.gov is a bit more tolerant. Yep. See, there they do not pass laws respecting any one religion; they support them all. A war memorial isn't a religion. I'll be waiting for your diatribes against Arlington West, then, since the various cities are allowing them to put up religious symbols on public land. Oh, you'll need to include the Lincoln Memorial in your efforts - should be easier though, you'll just need to chisel the word 'temple' off the dedication. Don't forget the headstones in Arlington cemetary, as well as the Tomb Of the Unknowns, what with that whole 'known but to God' thing they've got going on.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. Despite thinking the religion's a load of old bollocks I'll stand up for the rights of it's members to practice it without discrimination. Applies equally to both. Arvoitus 1 #55 January 10, 2011 QuoteQuote Further, I absolutely adore how the blogger, Schlussel, has corrupted the story from "Somali" in the linked video clip into "Muslim" in her headline I'm curious how she arrived at that. From Wikipedia's description of Somalia: "With very few exceptions, Somalis are entirely Muslims" You don't see many Christians complaining about Santa Claus, even if its a perversion of Christmas. Yule (christmas) is a pagan holiday stolen by christians and it has nothing to do with christianity or jesus.Your rights end where my feelings begin. Meso 38 #56 January 10, 2011 Damn straight. Christians have a history of invading a country and slaughtering the inhabitants, burning all of those peoples writings in an attempt to erase their existence, and then go ahead and steal their celebrations, but rebrand it with their own little twists. Anyone trying to claim the festive holiday as a Christian holiday is doing so ignorantly. While it may be that now to most people because the original societies that created it were all killed by the Christians, the roots (as can be seen by Christmas lights) are still Pagan. But the idea that Christians complaining about things (and many do) that have to do with the original holiday, when they stole it, is quite humorous. Paganism was far more civil. billvon 3,132 #57 January 10, 2011 >Paganism was far more civil. The Vikings were far more civil than the Poles during the 11th century? Any religion has the potential to be used as an excuse for war, and indeed most religions have been used for that reason.
