His Birth in History. "Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke i. 35.) Jesus Christ was born into this world, not from it. He did not evolve out of history; he came into history from the outside. Jesus Christ is not the best human being, He is a Being Who cannot be accounted for by the human race at all. He is not man becoming God, but God Incarnate, God coming into human flesh, coming into it from outside. His life is the Highest and the Holiest entering in at the Lowliest door. Our Lord's birth was an advent.

His Birth in Me. "Of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” (Galatians iv. 19) Just as Our Lord came into human history from outside, so He must come into me from outside. Have I allowed my personal human life to become a "Bethlehem" for the Son of God? I cannot enter into the realm of the Kingdom of God unless I am born from above by a birth totally unlike natural birth. "Ye must be born again.” This is not a command, it is a foundation fact. The characteristic of the new birth is that I yield myself so completely to God that Christ is formed in me. Immediately Christ is formed in me, His nature begins to work through me.

God manifest in the flesh—that is what is made profoundly possible for you and me by the Redemption.

Christmas has been cancelled and was made illegal for debauchery throughout the years. Today's Christmas is an overlay of various customs in which some have been celebrated before the birth of Christ. He was not the original reason behind this period. So your "perversion" is actually the other way around. Except I don't think that the Pagans were too upset.

I didn't see it that way at all. I believe his beliefs has as much ownership of this Season as anyone elses festivities. As far as I am concerned, he did this from his heart; not as a way to stamp some sort of claim. It's his way of celebrating.

I believe he has. There is no mention as to the date of the birth of Jesus Christ in the bible. There is only about a 1:365.25 chance it was December 25. Which is funny if you think about the "Roman census" part of the story. There ought to be a record of that, but it appears as if that part of the story is entirely invention and never happened. There is no proof whatsoever that any such Roman census ever took place. I'm not saying they didn't take a census, just that it never required traveling back to a person's ancestral home town. (ref)

I personally believe when the Catholic Church decided to make the birth date December 25 and his resurrection on Easter, they got it exactly backwards. Certainly from a symbolic point of view. It would have made FAR more sense to do it the other way 'round.

The Catholics have really screwed up the entire calendar. It doesn't even start on the right day any more.
