How To Handle Pirates

Russia Understands..

A brutal but possibly effective way of dealing with the piracy mess.

RUSSIAN NAVY CAPTURES SOMALI PIRATES

This videotape shows Russian Navy commandos on a Somali pirate ship shortly after the pirates had captured a Russian oil tanker. The Euro Union navy that patrols these waters would not interfere because they feared there could be casualties.

All explanations are in Russian with a few exceptions when a wounded pirate says something in English and the Russian soldier comments. All conversations between the commandos are in Russian; however, the pictures speak for themselves. The soldiers freed their compatriots and the tanker.

After capture, the Russian Navy Commandos moved the pirates back to the pirate ship, searched the pirate ship for weapons and explosives, and then they left the ship and exploded it with all remaining pirates hand-cuffed to it. The commandos sank the pirate ship along with the pirates, and without any court proceedings, lawyers etc. That is, they used the anti-piracy laws of the 18th and 19th centuries where the captain of the rescuing ship has the right to decide what to do with the pirates Usually, they were hung.

I suspect Russian ships will not be targets for Somali pirates in the future.

LOL ... "Why do you lie to me? This is not a fishing boat." - said by one of the Russians in the video.

The international community has the firepower to blow these pirates out of the water. Too bad they don't have the will. Good on these Russians for taking a stand. ;)

Remember back in the 80s when all those hostages, mostly civilians from Western countries, were being kidnapped by militants in Lebanon? The militants were having some pretty good success with that for a while. So, puffed-up with confidence, they moved on to taking a few Russians hostage. Made a big ransom demand. Well, within a short while, various militants' relatives' dead bodies started getting dumped on the street near Hezbollah headquarters. Guess what? The Russian hostages were released, and no more Russians were kidnapped in Lebanon.

I heard a variant of that story.
After the Russians (Soviets at the time) were taken, the heads of a couple mid-level Hezb were delivered to Hezb HQ. The Sovs were released unharmed and no more were kidnapped.
The US had a half dozen kidnapped, including the Beruit CIA chief of station, William Buckley, who was tortured to death.

Did anybody else notice that the link in the OP was dated May, 2010?
This isn't new, although I hadn't heard of it before.

Not really any different from the way the 'EU Navy' deals with things. its always worth looking a bit deeper into these stories.
