[sarcasm] Now that I have seen the video I have seen the error in my ways. I now know that everything you have ever said is right, to include that what is missing from my life is a large veiny leather studded cock shaped sex toy.[/sarcasm]

Or would doing that make me gullible/close-minded?

Very good training video for you. You should have watched this before you got into an argument with lawrocket in the Acorn thread. You would have understood your erroneous thinking sooner.

Okay. I'm a minute and a half into this with the lampshade ghost issue. I notice that he said, "My neighbor had immediately leapt to a conclusion and dismissed all alternatives." I noted that the narrator himself had done the same exact thing in noting it was the floor heater. NArrator was NOT open minded, i.e., "tighten the damned nut on the lampshade.'

"When you label an event supernatural you will misinterpret the evidence or make invalid causal consclusions and eliminate alternative explanations prematurely." I like this. Yet, when you label an observed effects as caused by, for example, "dark energy" - which is not detectable but is the best explanation we have so far - it's called "science." Both do the same thing - make assumptions that cannot be proven and any person who would say, "Dark energy? You've been talking about that for a half century now and still haven't shown me any. Let's look for alternatives that you CAN show me, pard" is considered a nutcase. "That's the very definition of close-mindedness."

It's amazing how close-minded this thing actually is! He's making a conclusion, backign it with subjective belief that is framed as objective reality, and exercises the very same arrogant close-mindedness it tries to point out.

It's like Jeanne railing on cheaters and greed in defense of ACORN. Yes - I am being close-minded.

Listen - close-mindedness is not a bad thing, per se. I have decided that in order to pass through a door I need to open it. My mind is decided based upon my experience. Opening my mind to alternative possibilties (such as in a quantum world, where there exists infinite probabilities, meaning that there are infinite times that I can pass through a closed door) would be a waste of resources and time. I've decided to open the door every time I intend on traveling throught it.

Minds can - and I would say SHOULD - be closed again on the basis of something that the person feels is subjectively substantial. I don't think that it should be settled that there is "dark energy" or "dark matter." However, until we have a better explanation I think it makes sense to continue with our physics investigation under that paradigm. And open our mind to the idea that it may not be "dark energy" but instead something that our intellect simply cannot comprehend.

Correct. One has some observational backing, so one is taken more seriously than the other. But both are unproven assumptions.

>"Dark energy? You've been talking about that for a half century now and
>still haven't shown me any. Let's look for alternatives that you CAN show
>me, pard"

?? That guy just contradicted himself. He's saying "I am sick of this search for a mysterious form of energy. Let's search for a mysterious form of energy."

"Dark energy" is not a black colored ray of light that someone thinks is bouncing around in the universe. It is a term used to describe a yet-undiscovered form of matter-energy that increases the rate of expansion of the universe.

>I have decided that in order to pass through a door I need to open it.

You could indeed decide that. But then you could walk up to a door in supermarket, go to open it, and observe "woah! That door just opened for me!" If that happened, I have a feeling you would adjust your behavior based on the observation that, sometimes, doors open for you.

But let's narrow the example to your bathroom door. You could decide "I should open that door every time it is closed and I want to pass through the doorway." And that would be a functional decision; it would work well for you. That is NOT the same as saying "I cannot cross into that space without opening that door." (For good reason; it would be trivially easy to disprove.)

Similarly, to get back to the narrator's point, you could say "when I pray I feel better, I feel at one with all things, I get over my addictions - so I'm going to pray." That might well be a very functional decision that serves you well. That is NOT the same as saying "therefore there must be a god named Vishnu."

Ok. Ive got a serious, straight-up yes/no question. Do you jump? Seriously, I just want to know.

That has *what* to do with posting in SC?

Oh that is soooo scary.... jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.... I mean.. I worked for Boeing on the 787.. I KNOW how airplanes are built... why would anyone want to jump out of one.

See, that's the mean reply I was reffering to in our PM. I was going to say if you DO actually still jump, then I suggest "jumping" off the interweb for a while and making a few skydives instead of showing all the anger and hate you do here.

And as I replied.. no I am grounded with a shoulder that needs a rebuild... and NON health care that will not cover it>:(

We have a system that specializes in ripping people off. It happens to a lot of people.

How many thousands do I need to give to a bottom feeding lawyer to sue Uniterd Health Care???

Bet you gots LOTS better health care... just as I once had. I thought I still did... surprise surprise surprise.

So, question: Does that mean we all should be all-loving and all-nicety to post here?

Reminds me of King Bush - kinder, gentler nation.

Yeah, what he really meant was, "Quitchyerbitchin cause we're gonna fuck you up even more."

Sounds like you want to rip off the insurance companies anf they won't let you do it. Much like a person who gets car insurance after a collision and the auto insurer won't pay to have it fixed is ripped off. No, the person bitching about being ripped off because the insurer won't pay for it isa usually trying to rip of the insurer.

[Reply]How many thousands do I need to give to a bottom feeding lawyer to sue Uniterd Health Care???

If you're trying to avoid being ripped off, I'd suggest you fo an immediate 180 from this course of action. Getting your shoulder fixed should be more important that funding some lawyers' kids' college fund.

Yes. Healthcare was much easier when we were spring chickens and without chronic conditions. You've got a jacked shoulder. My knee is screwed. But that's the way it goes.

I think that, however, nobody has ripped me off like the federal government.

Nah I am not dying... just a shoulder that dislocates at inopurtune times like when picking up a computer bag. Interesting viewpoint it matches some people I ran into on this journey thru how to rip off the insured... no .. I had the insurance... I have been paying for insuance for about 30 years since I got out of the military where I HAD a Public option.

Changing companies and changing insurers seems to be the way to not really have the Health Care you thought you had. Instead we have insurance execs getting rich and getting big bonuses for not paying for peoples health care.

You should go to work for them... They have LOTS of lawyers just like you to put on any case they want to avoid paying for when they think they can apply that pre-existing condition claim to.
Better to pay a staff lawyer than to pay for a shoulder repair or replacement .
It was a NEW injury Jerry
Its just business right Jerry??

If they would not even pay for the diganostics of an MRI they said they would( I had the doctors office call them to make sure)... I am not stupid enough to run up a huge bill for the surgery and hope they will pay. Now I have changed plans a couple times since.

Consevetards like to blather about death panels

We already have banks of lawyers manning the death panerls who are just that for thousands of Americans. Luckily I dont have something terminal...
