Guest #1 November 28, 2010 Oddly enough, I support this action, though for reasons you may be surprised about. I really can't shed a tear for the haute couture handbag makers, like Gucci, Prada, etc. So knockoffs are diluting their trademark(s)...so what? The people buying the knockoffs can't afford the real thing, and when one looks beyond the status symbol, and examines the intrinsic value of a Gucci handbag, what does one see? A few dollars' worth of leather, that's all. But the designer knockoffs are only the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Consider counterfeit auto parts. People have died because their cars were fitted with brake pads MADE OF SAWDUST. How about counterfeit helicopter parts? Counterfeit COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT PARTS? Fake pharmaceuticals, such as antibiotics? Feeling safer now? I'm not. Anywhere in the supply chain, there could be a douchebag who has decided to enrich himself by passing on materiel he knows is bogus, with no concern for the consequences. If you buy knockoffs, please consider that when you get that cheap look-alike, your pathetic quest for so-called "status" is encouraging an ugly trade, one which ends up costing human lives. And YES, they are the same thing. Please see also "A Deadly Faith in Fakes", by Majid Yar. mh edit to add URL ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
