quade 4 #1 November 26, 2010 QuoteReporting from Washington — The House this session has spent time honoring Geronimo, celebrating the Hollywood Walk of Fame's 50th anniversary, declaring country music a distinctly American art form and congratulating the Saratoga Race Course on its 142nd season. But the days of lawmakers spending hours on such niceties are on the way out. A leader of the House's new Republican majority intends to end the practice of voting on such resolutions — or at least dramatically scale it back. It's low hanging fruit, but Congress really ought to be doing better things with its time.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

rehmwa 2 #3 November 26, 2010 Quote, but Congress really ought to be doing better things with its time. I don't get your "but" statement here. You agree they shouldn't spend time on pointless legislation, but wish they wouldn't decide to take that position? They have to CHOOSE to not do it anymore, or every congressman hoping to pander some flaky PC group will issue proposals for "National (Gay, Black, Student, Anglo, Working Mom, Tree, Green, Short, Tall, White, Daughter, Aunt, Dog, etc etc etc ad nauseum) Day". These are perfect for congress-idiots to propose, because when their opponent says they are wasting our time, the proposer can counter that the opponent is INSENSITIVE to the plight of the (fill in the blank). Best to set a resolution to not do it at all rather than wait for the NEXT one to come up. Fight the concept as a whole, not the individual battles. Now, if they can start ignoring funding proposals for random research, idiotic arts, etc, and do targetted cutting of spending in the military and social structure..... more: remember the Simpson's when Bart ran for school council? Bart - Don't veteran's deserve at least one day in the their honor Lisa - they already have two Bart - BUT don't they DESERVE three? ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

D22369 0 #6 November 26, 2010 Maybe they can spend their extra free time reading the bills they pass. *** it would be nice... but apparently its not in their job description, and they are far too important and busy to bother with such trivial activities. RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
masterrig 1 #7 November 27, 2010 They are too busy doing whatever it takes to keep people voting for them and suckin'-up to those who can make their lives really cushy. As for the rest of this country... they couldn't care less. Chuck
