I did not go to the German source to see what he actually said, but I do not see where anything in his position is ill-considered. His position was unpopular, not stupid. Palin is an idiot. If she says something that is accurate, it is a matter of happenstance. She shows no sign of being able to differentiate between the valid and the nonsensical. The only comparison between the two is that they both left their positons, but it ends there. Palin somehow thinks she is qualified to stay in the game after she abandoned her post. Kohler simply hung it up and left. Would that we had someone with his stones on this side of the pond. BSBD, Winsor

JohnRich 4 #8 November 26, 2010 Here's a point, for all the partisan haters, if you can step down off of your high horses long enough to consider something. Everyone makes verbal gaffes now and then. Everyone. Even you and me. No one is immune. The difference with these public figures is that they're often on camera when they do it. All it means is that they're human, and maybe they're under pressure, and their mind is racing ahead of their tongue. We've all done it. When it happens, it does not serve as any kind of proof that the person is an idiot overall. Obama has made many verbal gaffes also, and I don't see any of you Palin-haters calling him an idiot for it, and judging him unfit for public office. So this false furor over gaffes is nothing but stupid partisan game-playing, which means absolutely nothing. Here is Sarah Palin's response to all this hype about her gaffe: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=463364218434 I now return you to your regular partisan hate-spewing, as per forum norms. Thank you.

DSE 5 #11 November 26, 2010 No doubt, you're 110% right, John. We all make "oops" and when you're in the spotlight it's easier even still. However in the case of Sarah Palin, she is a journalism major and yet still can't utter a grammatically correct sentence. Or perhaps she is able but instead is playing "hick" for the masses. She wants to be the leader of the free world; Palin needs to get her geography and English on.

Regarding Barry Obama's gaffes, for example when he said he had campaigned in 57 states, would you also say that this is a valid observation?: "However in the case of Barack Obama, he is a Harvard educated lawyer and yet still can't utter a geographically correct sentence. Or perhaps he is able but instead is playing "brother" for the masses. He is the leader of the free world; Obama needs to get his geography and English on." Thank you. Okay, Palin is not an idiot by dint of her verbal gaffes, she is an idiot who is prone to verbal gaffes. Obama is not unfit for public office because of his gaffes, either. Far from being an idiot, he is possessed of political genius at the very least; he is unfit for office because he is entirely unqualified to occupy it. Where his limitations exist, they are total. To come up to speed with what he needs to know to successfully execute the tasks required of him would require years of dedicated study, and there is a good chance that he is fundamentally incapable of catching on. Bob Bondurant observed that there are some people who can drive in traffic without problems, but simply cannot master the skills necessary to survive going to the limit. Just because I think one side sucks out loud, please do not assume that I have the slightest bit more affinity for the other side. Both sides of the aisle are proof that the scum rises to the top. The following comments are in reply to Winsor, but are directed at the audience in general. There you go - now we're getting somewhere. We shouldn't brand people idiots simply because they make a verbal gaffe now and then. If you think someone is an idiot, at least provide some objective basis for the comment, such as Winsor is doing here. Put some facts and logic behind the reason you think someone is an idiot. That at least shows that you're thinking rationally, and not just being a knee-jerk idiot yourself.

Though I am somewhat surprised people need justification to understand Sarah Palin is an idiot. Unless of course, they have been living under a rock. It may help the "under-rock dwellers" to list specific examples of Palin's actual actions or quotes/writings that would clearly demonstrate her idiocy. That would give her followers an opportunity to answer, defend or debate each charge of idiotic behavior. The same could be done for other politicians or public figures. That would at least move a discussion beyond unqualified name-calling. I would expect that the idiot label is not directly attached to the person's political alignment or occasional gaffe. The charges do not need to be restricted to idiocy. For example, incompetence, qualifications, dereliction, etc. could also be listed and discussed. I would expect that among adults a differentiation could be recognized between actual idiocy and political ideology (maybe not). That discussion might be an interesting read.
