No, just "local databases" (i.e. local screeners noting how 'big their junk really is.') Which has already happened; someone ended up in jail because of it.

So is this an irrational fear most men have that there's going to become some big database in the sky logging how big our junk really is that anyone can just google and find out?

:D

Laugh all you want...
I just ordered a set of these underwear
I'm not kidding. But I ordered them mostly because I want to have fun when I travel. :P

So the fact that TMZ might pay for a body scanner image of what ever doped out pop-tart of the day is, is an argument against body scanners?

Okay, what I'm not getting from you kelp and DSE is if not body scanners and not aggressive pat downs, then what? I'm sure y'all don't want another 9/11, so what would you propose instead?

OBTW, kelp, you're saying if I were of a certain occupation or reputation you'd listen to me as opposed to another? Which occupation or reputation would you listen to as opposed to not? Come on, that's just silly.

DSE, okay, so you want to "have some fun" when you travel. Fair enough. When you get pulled out of line because you've got one of those "fig leaf" things hidden in your shorts and you get the "special" treatment... man up and don't act all offended when it was you that pulled the pin on the grenade of your little joke.

Bill, so the folks who misused the body scanners / images wound up in jail? ummm... problem, where? You're not talking about the incident where a bunch of TSA agents had to go through the new scanners as training, got to see the images of their co-workers, ended up picking on one of the group over the size of his junk until he went postal on them? I'd say that's an argument regarding the caliber of folks the TSA hires and/or how they conduct their training and not against the technology. What am I missing in what you're trying to say?

Well, sort of. Put it this way - it's technology that people like the TSA will abuse. They've proven that they will. That's the problem.

Yeah, I have fun with it, because the other option is to be really angry about it. I'd rather laugh at the guy who has my nutsack in his hands cuz he's the one who has truly lost his dignity. He fondles nutsacks for a living, and I pay him to do it. I do find that pretty damn funny.
due to the amount of metal I've accumulated over 3 decades, I'll always be one of the "special" security (SSSS) guys. I might as well have fun with it.
Morons playing with my "resistance?" :P:D

They asked me to remove a bulky sweatshirt and when I pulled off the sweatshirt, rmy tshirt partially with the sweatshirt, I was told that I'd be fined if I exposed skin

Exposing skin? Doesn't a t-shirt by definition expose skin? What about women wearing strappy or backless tops? Did you ask which bits of skin constitute a fineable offence? Is it the Janet Jackson rule being applied and the nipple's the limit or what?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

I'm hearing your words Bill, but not your point, still, sorry.

So you're saying the folks at the TSA will abuse this technology because they have a track record of doing so? Okay, I'm not going to disagree or argue that against you, because I can't / don't disagree, but what I'm not getting is what you think should be used or done as an alternative to body scanners and/or aggressive pat-downs, since y'all find that so offensive or wrought with potential injustices or infractions of privacy?

Maybe the outrage should be if / when the TSA blows it again in the future and such images are leaked out or show up on TMZ or what not, the outrage from the public should be those TSA agents and their supervision aren't fired on the spot as opposed to the predictable government bureaucracy that may likely impede that?

Anyway, this thread has been fun. Fun has been made of the TSA. A sport I too engage in. We've seen the bashing of Bush and the Patriot Act... a ritual to some here. What now? How about some posts of alternatives to prevent another 9/11?

I don't know what constitutes "showing skin." Do they judge by the age and sex of the person showing skin? In my case, my mid section was all that was exposed. Coupled with my chuckle, maybe the guy thought I was taking it all off.
I also suspect he was making rules up on the spot. Not like they'd do that or nuthin...:D

... and the problem with just going through the body scanner is?

That this is the first step. If we allow this, we will soon live in a world where we are basically strip searched to go anywhere. We should be free to live as private of lives as we want to, and having to constantly allow others to look at our naked form is not private.

I boycotted today.

I was asked if I was sure I wanted to avoid the body scanner. I explained I did not trust that my naked body wouldn't find its way to the internet. The pat down was made to sound like a punitive action for refusing the body scanner. They asked me to remove a bulky sweatshirt and when I pulled off the sweatshirt, rmy tshirt partially with the sweatshirt, I was told that I'd be fined if I exposed skin. I wasn't removing my Tshirt, but they were expecting it, or so it seems.

As I was being felt up, I asked the TSA agent if he enjoyed being paid for groping people. He replied that I wasn't being groped, and that any further comments could result in "a bad day for me."

TSA could stand for Tolerated Sexual Assault. I'm convinced it's a place pedophiles and perverts can find jobs and be exceptionally happy. Erstwhile, the terrorists already have won, and will win again.

It must suck to be a rent-a-moron right now, and that's only going to serve to make them more defensive and likely to make more errors.

that shit infuriates me. The whole concept that a piece of shit tsa agent can threaten to ruin your day if you say something they don't like. This is such a bunch of shit.

Well, we must have been doing alright, as it's been 9 years and there hasn't been a 9/11 type attack.

Most of the potential problems have came from the procedures that were already in place not being followed.

Secure cockpits would be a plus. Trained competent tsa agents that could actually follow their existing procedures properly, as well as spot potential terrorists based on their mannerisms. Air marshalls on EVERY flight.

Really the most important change would be having competent tsa employees that were trained to spot potential problems before they even make it to the security checkpoint.

I'm implying that your choice of occupation has rendered you clueless about why others have issues with their naked image being in the public realm.

The white collar world is pretty uptight, and these things can be harmful. Merely having tattoos can be harmful.

As to what I'm suggesting instead - no, you need to justify this one, since it wouldn't stop the xmas bomber nut, or anything at all. If it doesn't get the job done, we don't need to spend billions and our dignity to get it. And funny, the small estimated risk of getting cancer from it matches the small risk of being blown up in the sky.

We did the heavy lifting already - secure the pilot's cabin. Give them guns, along with marshalls. But nothing short of strip searches with cavity inspections would stop a bomber now. And even that won't, since people still can bring knives, razor blades (See Adam Savage), or guns in their carry on without even trying to hide them. I think there's a lot more gained to make sure someone doesn't bring their CCW sidearm into the "secure" area than feeling up your crotch.

I should clarify one thing; when I was told to not remove my tshirt (and I wasn't going to anyway), I wasn't told I "would" be fined, I was told I "could" be fined.

Here's one to ponder...
Can the guy that shot the cell phone video of the little boy in SLC be charged with invasion of privacy?
Does the need for informational sharing with the masses outweigh the privacy of the little boy and his father/family that were shot in the video?

I mean...TSA is acting big-brotherish just like Orwell predicted. Orwell didn't realize that the masses of asses would have cell phone video for tattling on Big Brother.
It's a question worth pondering.

On a more humorous note...we could probably save money if the TSA could also check for prostate and bowel cancer problems while they're in there....:D

That's my recurring airport nightmare. Wonderful, now we have even longer lines. So what happens when the whackjob decides not to bother going through security? Instead he can walk up to the middle of the crowd, just outside scanning, and push the button. Does anyone think that would be any less traumatic to air travle than bringing down a commercial airliner?

THIS IS A BULL SHIT STORY AND NEVER HAPPENED!

This is part of the problem... I've already seen this on Facebook and the fake story is spreading like wild fire. Pretty soon MSN will be reporting it a true story.

Too many people/passengers and media included are making this out to be much worse than it really is.

Yes, it's a bullshit story.
However, a bullshit story doesn't make it out to be "worse than it really is" because what it is, is a massive farce foisted upon the people of this country. When we're afraid of ourselves, afraid of decent people pushed to do indecent things, by an indecent government that profits from the fear that they've falsely generated, then it doesn't get a whole lot worse.
I'm an American citizen. I resent that in the name of convenience, freedoms are being taken from us because there are sheep that are happy to believe the propaganda.
If all this accomplished one damn thing, then I'd wager that the world would be different. It is what it is.
It's a series of compromises that are based on false information in the first place.
Had the security services done their jobs in the first place, 9/11 wouldn't have happened. Stepping up real security is a great thing, but we're still expecting people with a 5th grade education, many of whom barely speak English, to protect us from significantly smarter people.
Instead, we've seen numerous real stories of theft, abuse, lies, coverups, misappropriations, abuse, and now molestation. A bullshit story from the UK doesn't change the real stories nor does it advance the cause of protecting our individual rights as American citizens.
