The UN Makes One Proud to Support it

My question is how do we do a Human Rights investigation on the UN?
Or are they above scrutiny?

Thanks. I'll be sure to mention that to the families of the deceased Canadian soldiers serving under the UN ISAF mandate in Afghanistan.

While you are talking to them, be sure to mention how there loved ones are now working for mass murdering war criminals.

edited to add:

So if the Canadian solders follow his orders and murder more innocent civilians, can they get diplomatic immunity too?

They are not working for Sri Lanka. they work for Canada in support of a UN mandate.

If you have the time, you might wish to read how Canadian civilian courts and our military deals with that type of issue.

Can you please explain how somebody serving Sri Lanka and posted to New York causes you to disrespect the entire body of other countries. Shouldn't you direct your contempt to Sri Lanka if you feel that strongly?

This "body" as you call it has a list of issues that would take two people a month just to name. This specific case makes me wonder why they would as a "body" accept this person. Another accomplishment is the UN's use of luxury cruise ships in Haiti. Time for the US to stop funding this "body" and send them packing

Of course, it is your national prerogative to reduce or even stop your funding to the UN. You are equally within your rights to quit NATO. You are also within your rights to ignore international conventions of law, trade, and commerce.

If you don't want to be part of the UN, elect a government that will stop-payment on your portion of funding, quit, and kick them off your soil.

Speaking only for me, I'd be okay with that.

The sun will rise tomorrow, and the world will continue on, with or without the participation of your country as a member-state. Sadly though, if that is to become the case, we will never again have the opportunity to listen to people like your president Kennedy who addressed the General Assembly with "Within the limits of our responsibility in such matters, my country intends to be a participant and not merely an observer, in the peaceful, expeditious movement of nations from the status of colonies to the partnership of equals."

If the UN were as you described it I would have no problem being a participant. IF other countries shared more of the cost of this body I would have less problem supporting it. If UN members were force to pay the thousands if not tens of thousands of their parking tickets and quick forcing themselves on the people of that that town I would have less of a problem supporting it. If this body would take care of their own rapists and thieves I would have less problems supporting it

But do you see that happening?

Too much money, too much power

Easy, the U.N. doesn't have a vetting process for any of it's members. Sri Lanka put him up and the rest of the world excepted him.

Now this man could lead a U.N. coalition into another country. You don't have a problem with that?

The examples you gave of Canadian soldiers are of them acting on there own accord. What happens when they are ordered to commit those acts? Do you charge them for refusing to follow orders or do you charge them for war crimes?

The diffrence between you and me is that I would never put any soldier in a position where he has to choose his charge.

The U.N. has a long history of being a corrupt organization with no real power. Counties all over have ignored there sanctions. As a place for countries to come together in the court of public opinion, it is still useful. Beyond that, it has long outlived it's purpose.

Well, to Godwin the thread, this guy going to work at the UN is a lot like putting Heinrich Himmler into UN office.

I was going to make a joke about how next maybe we could elect the countries with the worst human rights records to the UN Human Rights Council. Unfortunately it's not a joke because it already happens all the time. Hence folks referring to the UN itself as a joke.

And your post defines only a small part of the problem with this body[:/]
