RIP AGW

One of the prime arguments some people have against Al Gore is they believe he will become wealthy somehow due to his stance and therefore has a vested interest in promoting the idea of AGW.

Well, there's no question that he gained and will continue to gain wealth from the movement.

Hm. If you think that Al Gore is "promoting the idea of AGW" (your term) more than he actually believes it to be the case in order to gain wealth, say so directly, and then back it up.

Look at the bigger picture and the subtler effects. Even if we ultimately can't stop the planet from warming, we should take whatever steps we can to slow it.

At what cost?

You mean what should be the price we pay for saving civilization? Seriously?

Hence the term Alarmist

although I like warmist better

if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Ok - So you believe that the world will end and humans will die out because of global warming.

This is the what I am hearing from you:

Fear Mongering
Alarmist
Extremist
Unrealistic

Stop me if any of these terms don't fit this type of thinking . . .

Fantasy
Radical
Fanatic
Sectarian

the list goes on . . .

No. The world will continue. It was here before humans and it will be here after.

Will humans "die out" from global warming? Probably not.

However, understand the idea of a global war based on food shortages isn't far fetched at all.

We're not talking about a minor conflict here. We're talking about the potential for a global event where there is not enough food to feed the number of people living on the planet.

Our civilized world depends on a few things that are inextricably linked but food is ultimately the center. The issue is the vast majority of the people on the planet today have no idea whatsoever how to exist without pre-packaged food.

There is as much evidence for that as there is for the phenomenon of 12/20/12.

Weird, because I don't see the Deutsche Bank or well known military analysts making a lot of comments about 12/20/12, however they do seems concerned about the consequences of global climate change as it relates to civilized life.

I might also toss in here a mention for a book written by a guy I know, Jared Diamond, called Collapse.

Dr. Diamond has studied the creation and fall of human society for most of his life. He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for his book, Guns, Germs and Steel. He's received a number of other interesting awards, but one that caught my eye hanging on his wall is one from the CIA for his contributions to their efforts in understanding how the world works.

Anyway . . . he's kind of a big deal and people take him pretty seriously.

The book is worth the read.

It sounds that way! I'll definately look for it next time I'm in B&N.

I made no implication, direct or otherwise. I merely affirmed that the initial statement is proven true, not open to doubt.

(pop quiz: how relevant is Dan Quayle these days?)

Of course you are right! What was I thinking? We should start working on that asteroid shield as well. If we get his with an asteroid the size of Manhattan, that will surly destroy civilization. Oh, oh! What about a comet blaster? We have to have a comet blaster. We should raise everyone’s taxes to pay for a comet blaster and an asteroid shield. Because if the earth is hit by a comet or an asteroid it will surly destroy civilization. Scientists all agree that we have been hit by both asteroids and comets in the past and will be hit by them in the future, there is no time to waste, lets us get started!

I think that if we detected an asteroid that would indeed hit the planet, it might be worthwhile thinking about just that.

With you 100% on that one. I just visited the cape 2 weeks ago and it was very sad to see. All of the multi media displays were featuring the Orion program that was just canceled. The announcer actually said: "what does the future hold" I don’t know! That is what makes it so exciting! We might go to Mars we might go to an asteroid! We are living in very exciting times!" They were trying very hard to put a positive spin on the decline of NASA.

Oh the irony

"Does not one of the great minds decoding next century's weather see the brain-splitting contradiction of holding a conference warning of the imminent threat of global warming in a venue that mainly exists because people fly there to get warmer? That's right, people spend money to fly to Cancun mainly because it's warmer there than where they live. In essence, Cancun is what the global warming crowd are, otherwise, warning us about."

Yep, that is indeed a problem. Good to see you recognizing it; that way we can work on fixing it.

All I can say is WOW!

WikiLeaks cables reveal how US manipulated climate accordEmbassy dispatches show America used spying, threats and promises of aid to get support for Copenhagen accord

If the data and our planet climate direction is so clear cut and, only the deniers worry about thier money, why do the Warmists have to resort to this?

Or
Are they really Warmists?
Or is it really just about the money in the end
For any and all sides?
