turtlespeed 226 #1 November 18, 2010 I can see several down sides to this - Mainly that when the alert goes out - many many traffic accidents may happen - depending on the message, or at least the likelyhood will increase substantially. I can see upsides to this - Amber Alerts, being the most important. Thoughts?I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
quade 4 #2 November 18, 2010 QuoteThoughts? Needs an opt out at various levels. If they sent me a text every time there was a road closure in my area, I don't think I'd ever be able to sleep because those happen in the middle of the night around here. Additionally, most of the time I could not care less about traffic conditions since I really only need that information when I'm actually on the road. So, I'd absolutely want to opt out of anything like that. Likewise, it makes little sense to send me an Amber Alert if I'm working in my home office. I seriously doubt the car with the kidnapper is going to drive through the room. On the other hand, if the ICBMs are actually on the way, yeah, it would be nice to get a text about it.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
matthewcline 0 #3 November 18, 2010 Over all, it is a good idea, at face value. I can turnoff my alerts and ringers directly on my phone till the Alarm is to go off to wake me, so no issues with sleep or privacy in a meeting. Since it will be targeted on the location of the Cell in relation to towers it seems pretty good over all. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! You can already get those sent to your phone... it's pretty cool, like vigalante cool...just make sure you get a good superhero costume... dgskydive 0 #7 November 18, 2010 I wanna change my vote. I voted bad idea, but I think it is a good one. I thought EBS stood for Electronic Banking System. Hahaha. I dont want my phone to be my credit or debit card. To easy to lose or break. Emergency Broadcast on phones would be great! Although they (cell phones) probably wont work to well if there is a major Emergency. Have you ever tried to use your cell phone on New Years Eve? Cant get a call through, because everyone is calling and overloading the networks. Imagine if they started sending out emergency warning and how many people would start calling friends and family. The whole system would lock up.Dom

You would think somebody as smart as you would be able to figure out who to turn off the sound on his phone. Quoteit makes little sense to send me an Amber Alert if I'm working in my home office. I seriously doubt the car with the kidnapper is going to drive through the room. So obviously you also think Amber Alerts should not make it to the TV in your living room, or family room, or bedroom...or were ever else you have TVs. What about the radio, only car radios? But what if I am listening to the radio while I am changing theoil in my garage...that's pretty useless too. No more amber alerts on the radio.... And, why put them up on those screens along the highway? I am obviously not going to see the truck they are looking for while I am looking at the screen reading the message.... You would think somebody as smart as you would be able to figure out who to turn off the sound on his phone. The phone needs to ring when it needs to ring. Sometimes this includes waking me up. Not whenever a pot hole is filled. Silencing the phone because EBS is a nuisance negates the point of having EBS on the phone to begin with. The system would need opt outs at various levels for the same reason I turn my TV off at night to go to sleep, but still leave my smoke detectors active so they wake me up when there really is an "E."quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
