Let's see...a large hunk of metal, 2 ammo boxes....Hmmmm. What's inside the boxes? (opens ammo box). Hmmmm...bullets on a belt...must be a machine gun of some sort. Can't figure out how to load the damn belt. Maybe I could use it as a baseball bet to whack 'em as they come in (hefting large hunk of metal and taking a few practice swings.) Maybe I could get the bullets out of the belt and tag a few with a good accuate throw from 20 feet. Hey! What's this? A flap on top of the large hunk of metal that opens up! Hmmmmm...now what? (base lights come back on, siren stops, all clear sounded, go back inside) Me: (dropping everything and hauling ass to the latrine) Me: (later) WTF asshole! Are you fucking crazy giving me a large hunk of metal and I don't know WTF it is?????? NCOIC: er.....er..... Me: Fuck you! Next time give me an M16 asshole. Turned out that that large hunk of metal was an M60. I had never touched one before. In those days, training was minimum to get the cannon fodder out into the field as quickly as possible. M14/M16 training and you were good to go. Assholes.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Did VietNam Cruise '68 on the USS Princeton LPH-5, V-6 Paraloft. 'Had 5" guns around the ship, whenever they fired one near my shop it knocked loose all the rust in the vent ducts and spewed down into my shop!! You guys shoulda called in the USS New Jersey!! Usedta' watch her punt 16" rounds in-country off Da Nang!! That's Gun action!!
