I didn't say that it doesn't happen, just that it isn't allowed (looting isn't allowed either).
There have been a number of cases where people were prosecuted and convicted for wrongly using deadly force to protect property.

And Andy908 is correct, Texas law does permit it.

For the most part (Texas excluded) deadly force can only be used (even by the authorities) to prevent "death or great bodily injury", IOW in defense of deadly force.

Can't use deadly force to protect property. Period.

That isn't a new law or a new interpretation of one.


It varies by state. Defending property in Texas is quite different.
